Villa W

A 1970s Million Program villa in Mölndal, clad in brick with a characteristic yodeler balcony. Nestled on the very edge of the Änggårdsbergen forest, the site is graced by passing deer and foxes. Beneath the home’s slightly worn 70s aura lies the promise of something extraordinary.
Our client envisioned a glass pavilion opening westward toward the forest – a sunlit room that extends the seasons, making space for wine cultivation and warm evenings from early spring until well into autumn.

The zoning plan allows for an extension of approximately 50 m². Through a series of design explorations, we arrived at a solution: a new kitchen paired with a greenhouse room arranged across two levels. Its insulated glazing follows the pitch and eaves of the original roof, weaving old and new into a coherent whole. A narrow stair links the levels, introducing a new dynamic to the home’s spatial flow.

The villa’s façades and all interior surfaces are renewed, infusing the house with a richer materiality – plasterboard and laminate give way to solid wood flooring and natural stone. Complementing the main intervention, we also designed a new garage and a sauna for the site.

Åkersberga Church – a holistic approach to sustainability

Åkersberga Church is an ambitious parish with a clear goal: to be truly sustainable across all areas of activity.

We led a redevelopment in two phases:

• Phase 1: Interior renovation and reconstruction with a focus on social spaces, plus the addition of a completely new choir hall.

• Phase 2 (planned concept): Design work included a vision for a new garden with vegetable cultivation and a greenhouse for ceremonies. While the greenhouse was never built, the idea helped guide the overall sustainable approach.

The existing building is classified as especially valuable. Our work carefully adapts to the historic brick architecture, with high standards for preservation. Every change to the floor plan was thoroughly evaluated, with a strong emphasis on reusing materials — honoring the building’s heritage while reducing environmental impact and cost.

This year, no planting was done in the garden, but we look forward to coming back next season to see what begins to grow and how the outdoor spaces will take shape over time.

Digital Tomatoes – Designing Circular Food Systems with Data Center Heat

At Greenhouse Living, we design with ecosystems in mind. One of our most exciting projects to date—now live in Backa, Gothenburg—is a greenhouse heated entirely by residual heat from Göteborg Energi’s data center.

This isn’t just a novel use of waste energy. It’s an urban food production system, designed to work in synergy with the city’s existing infrastructure.

Together with Göteborg Energi, and the dedicated growers at Odlingsbolaget Svalan and Mikrogården, we’ve created a system where architecture, energy, and agriculture converge.

The 130 m² structure is designed for year-round cultivation and integrates both traditional soil beds and vertical hydroponics. That means everything from chili, ginger, and shiso in winter to tomatoes and herbs in summer—all grown using a consistent 24 °C stream of surplus heat.

The architecture serves more than function. It becomes a living system, showcasing how cities can close loops—recycling energy, producing food, and building resilience in the face of climate change.

We’re proud to share that the photos in this post were taken during a visit from the Swedish Institute, who interviewed us about this project’s vision, potential, and impact.

This is what circular urban design looks like in practice.
And it’s just the beginning.

🌿 A village where the future grows.
We’re proud to share our vision for Lunnarp Växthusby – a regenerative and socially vibrant neighborhood designed in collaboration with Tomelilla Kommun.

At Greenhouse Living, we believe in architecture that actively supports both ecological cycles and human community. This vision sketch is rooted in Österlen’s landscape and culture, where homes are integrated with private greenhouses, local food production, shared orangeries, and biodiversity-rich commons.

Key ideas:
✅ Mediterranean greenhouse climate from March to October
✅ Self-sufficient systems for water, nutrients, and solar energy
✅ Mixed housing forms for diverse needs and budgets
✅ Vibrant public spaces centered on growing, gathering, and play
✅ Ecological market gardening and circular resource flows

We’re deeply thankful for the trust and partnership with Tomelilla Municipality and look forward to realizing more places like this – where people and planet thrive side by side. 🌍🌱

🌱 FROM 1% TO 40% – BUILDING A RESILIENT FOOD FUTURE FOR GOTHENBURG 🌆

A new report by SWECO, commissioned by the City of Gothenburg, highlights a powerful opportunity:
👉 Local vegetable production could grow from just 1% today to 40% within ten years.

The potential impact is significant:
✅ 75,000 tons CO₂ emissions reduced annually
✅ 20 million SEK in annual savings for the city
✅ 5,000 new green jobs
✅ A stronger, more self-sufficient local food system

At Greenhouse Living, we believe the built environment must play an active role in this transformation.
Together with representatives from the City of Göteborg, we have studied how we can most efficiently support the development of sustainable and circular food production within the city.

In this report, we highlight six different greenhouse concepts, each with a unique focus—yet all contributing to circular resource flows and multifunctional urban value.

This is more than a shift in agriculture. It’s a systemic reimagining of how cities can work—with circularity, resilience, and regeneration at the core. Gothenburg has a chance to lead by example. Let’s build that future together.

🌿🏙️ Co-Living, Co-Working, Co-Growing: A New Blueprint for Urban Life

How do we live well—in community, with purpose, and within planetary boundaries?

Together with our client, we’ve been developing the Tech Farm concept: a new kind of urban habitat that combines co-living, co-working, and cultivation in one integrated building.

🛏️ Private rooms meet shared kitchens, gardens, and creative workspaces.
📡 Residents share not only a home—but a lifestyle. A network. A mindset.
🌱 The greenhouse becomes a natural gathering space for food, reflection, and regeneration.

Tech Farm is about sharing—space, tools, knowledge, and time.
It’s about removing the unnecessary divisions between “life” and “work,” between privacy and community, between indoors and outdoors.

We’ve tested the concept across multiple sites in and around Stockholm, both in existing buildings and new developments. What’s emerging is a flexible, climate-conscious building system that encourages human connection—and makes a high-quality, low-impact lifestyle not only possible, but desirable.

At Greenhouse Living, we’re proud to contribute to this model for future urban living.
It’s a glimpse of where we’re heading: shared, smart, green, and deeply human.

🌿 Andliga Hållplatser – Spiritual Stops 🌿
In Österåker’s pastorate, seven unique places now invite you to pause — spaces for quiet reflection, offering views over the landscape.
Each stop is built on a foundation of recycled, de-identified gravestones, supporting a wooden platform of untreated pine.
A moment for stillness. A pause for the soul.

Commissioned by Svenska kyrkan, Österåkers pastorat.

🌿🎶 From Sketch to Vision: The Madrid Music Greenhouse 🎶🌿
An ambitious dream that still inspires us.

Back in 2020, our team at Greenhouse Living was invited to explore the potential of a new kind of cultural landmark in the heart of Madrid: a giant public greenhouse designed not only for concerts and music events, but as a living ecosystem – powered by solar energy, cooled by greenery, and sustained by urban food production.

The Madrid Music Greenhouse was envisioned as a 4,000 sqm climate-smart venue where vertical gardens, green plant walls, and cultivation balconies met large-scale events and nightlife. A space where sustainability wasn’t a compromise, but a core design principle.

Some highlights of the pre-study:
🌱 2100 sqm event space for up to 4000 people
🍅 Integrated vertical farming and eco-cycle water systems
☀️ 1000 sqm semi-transparent solar panels
🌳 A shaded, terraced garden welcoming guests under a green canopy
🎤 Modular design for concerts, conferences & food festivals

Although the project wasn’t realized, it remains a powerful example of what’s possible when architecture, sustainability, and culture meet.

At Greenhouse Living, we continue to push boundaries – helping cities, communities and clients build greener, more circular and inspiring spaces. From the first sketch to the final build.

🌿🏡 Living Lightly, Living Smart: Designing Homes for the Next Era

At Greenhouse Living, we believe the homes of the future won’t be bigger—they’ll be smarter, greener, and more connected to life.

With this design concept, we explores just that:
💡 A compact, climate-smart home inside a greenhouse envelope—where architecture meets cultivation, and energy cycles are closed rather than wasted.
It’s not just a building. It’s a microclimate. A new kind of intimacy between humans, nature, and the spaces we inhabit.

Right now, we’re in active discussions with two smaller municipalities in Sweden who are interested in exploring this model on a village scale—circular greenhouse living with extended growing seasons.

💬 The goal? To create unique living qualities that can revitalize small communities in a sustainable and attractive direction—
—and to show developers that land-based housing can be both viable and visionary, even in a challenging housing market.

This isn’t speculative. It’s a real shift in how we live, build, and relate to place.
And we’re proud to be part of shaping that shift—not just through ideas, but through real projects on the ground.

🏗️ The question isn’t what’s trendy?
It’s what does meaningful, future-ready living look like—and how do we build it now?

Let’s reimagine the future of living, together.

🏡✨ The Future of Living Is Rooted in Nature and Built for Change

At Greenhouse Living, we design spaces that go beyond walls and roofs—we create living systems. Looking ahead 5, 10, even 20 years, the homes we build won’t just shelter us. They’ll nourish us, adapt with us, and support our health, our communities, and the planet.

🌱 Imagine homes that grow food, capture energy, and breathe with the seasons.
🏙️ Homes that blend digital infrastructure with nature-based solutions.
🔁 Spaces designed to evolve, reuse, and regenerate—not just sustain.

We see a future where your kitchen composts into your garden. Where your greenhouse doubles as a ceremony space or community hub. Where architecture isn’t just sustainable—it’s alive.

This isn’t science fiction. It’s already happening in our work—from urban microfarms to adaptive re-use of cultural buildings, from tech-integrated greenhouses to sacred spaces reimagined for a climate-conscious world.

At Greenhouse Living, we’re not just following trends—we’re building a new logic for living. One that’s circular, soft-tech, and deeply human. The future home is flexible, fertile, and full of meaning.

Are you ready to build it with us?

🍕🌿🔥 Stenmark Greenhouse Restaurant is a shining example of how thoughtful architecture can merge functionality with sustainability. With a stunning wooden framework, this structure blends seamlessly with nature while offering warmth and character to the space.

But what truly sets it apart? Residual heat from the wood-fired pizza oven doesn’t just cook—it heats the entire greenhouse! This innovative system ensures a stable, comfortable climate year-round for both guests and the vegetables growing inside. On the rooftop terrace, tomatoes and other produce will be cultivated year-round, bringing fresh, homegrown ingredients straight to the table.

The sustainability efforts don’t stop there. The entire frame and greenhouse are built from 100% wood, avoiding steel and concrete altogether. Instead, the foundation is an innovative solution: CLT wood floor slabs resting on sheets of foam glass—an approach to minimizing environmental impact while maintaining structural integrity.

This project is a testament to how traditional materials, modern techniques, and circular thinking can shape a more sustainable future. 🌱
