HORSE, THE SOLOS
by Deborah Hay & Cullberg
13 August, Artipelag, Stockholm (SE)
16 + 17 + 18 + 19 August, Hallen, Stockholm (SE)

Strongly affected by climate change and the current world situation, especially in America, Deborah Hay's new work for Cullberg "Horse, the Solos" is a meditation on survival or even an exercise in survival, inspired by all that is unseen in a single blade of grass. "Horse, the Solos" has been nominated for three Bessie awards in New York City - Deborah Hay for Outstanding Choreography/Creator, the whole ensemble for Outstanding Performer, and Graham Reynolds for Outstanding Musical Composition.

BILLY'S JOY
by Jan Lauwers & Needcompany
11 + 13 + 14 July (world premiere)
Impulstanz, Vienna (AT)

After the success of Billy's Violence, the desire to continue this intense tale was so strong amongst the artistic team, cast and crew that it has led to a sequel: Billy’s Joy. Once again, Victor Lauwers turns his hand to reworking Shakespeare’s plays and see what they can still mean in our time - a time of great controversies, vulgar polemics, cancel culture, structural racism, climate change, war. What is there left to laugh at? Is humour the coward's weapon or a form of activism?

NOCHE by Cullberg & @ Alma Söderberg
9 & 10 December 2022, PACT Zollverein, Essen (DE)

The meeting between dance and music, voice and rhythm, is central in Alma Söderberg’s new work “Noche”, in which exploration takes a new form. At the same time slow and sudden, constantly recurring but nevertheless unpredictable, the night is a soft break with its own rhythm. The moonlight is at once sharp and confusing, the ground under one’s feet different. Nothing can be taken for granted, attention is increased.

The night is the starting point for a different kind of music and dance, more uneven in its rhythm, more risky, at the same time soft, warm and dark. With its pastel colored and blurred edges, “The Listeners” is an evening work. Where it ends, “Noche” starts.

ÔSS by Marlene Monteiro Freitas & Dançando com a Diferença
5, 6, 7 & 8 October 2022, Chaillot - Théâtre national de la Danse / Festival d'Automne à Paris, Paris(FR)

ÔSS is an intriguing encounter between Marlene Monteiro Freitas and Dançando com a Diferença. 8 performers explore the differences between the solid and the soft, the entrails and skin alike.

ÔSS is how you say ‘bone’ in Creole. It is also reminiscent of the expression OSS, common among karate practitioners, which refers to ideas such as pressing, pushing, supporting. What interests us in this show is the bone as a keeper of ancient secrets, revealing anatomical orientations, a structuring box for soft and fragile parts. Building a strong skeleton, where the foot serves as the brain, the heart serves as an elbow, and the knees are a liver and an ear, will naturally be possible for us, since the difference between hard and soft matters little.

MUYTE MAKER by Flora Détraz
14 & 15 July 2022, Colours International Dance Festival, Stuttgart (DE)

“In a series of astonishing associations, Flora Détraz shows grotesque metamorphoses of femininity, as playful as it is disturbing. Between the beautiful sound of the voices and the increasingly macabre images, a colossal uncertainty arises, a constant tightrope walk between joy and horror, archaic symbolism and unleashed bodies. In her works, the young choreographer, who sits at the table herself, explores the relationship between voice and movement, here joy is her theme: as an existential expression, as resolute resilience and as an infinite reservoir from which people become creative.” - https://www.coloursdancefestival.com/

This year, Christos Papadopoulos has the honour to present LARSEN C as an opening piece of the Festival Julidans ’22:
2 & 3 July 2022, Festival Julidans / Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, Amsterdam (NL)

“With Larsen C, the choreographer explores the state of transition, from one movement to another. He wonders whether a small difference in a familiar rhythm, a trivial change in body movement, or even a slight shift in scenery, sound or light can completely alter our perception.
It is about the transitional phase between two roles, about the phase in which you are no longer one and not quite the other, the interim. The moment when you have left the old and are on the threshold of something new.” https://julidans.nl/en/shows/larsen-c/3246253/

WEG by Ayelen Parolin,
1 & 2 & 3 July 2022, Festival di Spoleto, Spoleto (IT)

“Defined by Le Soir as a «formidable visual firework in which humour and elegance are wonderfully combined», WEG unfolds before the eyes of the spectator as a kind of daydream, a kaleidoscopic polyphony that explores the notion of pleasure, of an interior melody that leads to movement.” (https://festivaldispoleto.com/en/events/event/weg/)

ON EARTH I’M DONE | MOUNTAINS & ISLANDS by Cullberg & Jefta van Dinther
1 & 2 July 2022, Montpellier Danse Festival, Montpellier (FR)
6 & 7 July 2022, Julidans Festival, Amsterdam (NL)

In the archaic-futuristic diptych On Earth I’m Done created by Jefta van Dinther for Cullberg, the audience is transported to a place torn out of the conventional space-time continuum.

“Mountains is a tale of creation. The performance raises questions about what it means to be a human being, what it is to exist on and care for this planet. The performance delves into the intelligence of nature and the formation of culture. And looks at nature-culture’s intricately interwoven existence.

With Islands we are heading into a place where humanity can no longer be taken for granted. The life existing here thinks and acts and speaks through the vector of human emotion, but their feelings are synthetic. Their social interaction is hacked, their sexual reproduction is an interface, the care for their planet is automated“ says Jefta van Dinther.

HURLULA by Flora Détraz – creation

The first phase of HURLULA, an upcoming production by the French artist Flora Détraz, has been developed within the frame of the Forecast program: selected as a mentee by the composer and musician Sofia Jernberg, Flora Détraz has a chance to make research on the act of screaming and focus on the vocal part of the new project, which premiere is planned for September 2023.

HURLULA focuses on “connecting to deep layers of emotions and opening a channel through the body to liberate screams”.

Watch the video to hear more about the ideas behind HURLULA and the connection between Flora Détraz and her project mentor Sofia Jernberg.
