New PRs at the gym! Trap bar deadlifts with 60 kg x 10 x 3, leg press 80 kg x 10 x 3 in a superset, and Romanian deadlifts 60 kg x 10 x 3 to start. Can't believe I went from tentatively lifting on machines a year ago to crushing these numbers.

Despite having heard my whole life that I shouldn’t even touch weights or even using resistance bands because I’m already “big”, I decided in my midlife that if the price for frailty is “becomig big”, I will gladly pay for it!
🥰🥰🥰

My maternal grandma died after complications from dementia/ Alzheimer’s disease.
Her sister and our “second grandma” could hardly walk in her last years because of severe osteoporosis, and died after a massive heart attack.

Frailty is NOT a given of older ages. At this point in my life, with the extension knowledge about female physiology, medical advancement and health care, I consider frailty A CHOICE!

It’s probably an unpopular opinion, but I stand by it.

Stress management, adequate nutrition, proper medical care for the inevitable hormonal changes throughout one’s life and exercise in form of lifting weights and cardiovascular training are mandatory for having a chance to age in a healthy and NON-FRAIL way.

And I freaking love my brain! I love helping pets and pet owners, and I want to do it for a veeeeeery long time!

I also love other veterinary professionals getting the best of their personal and professional lives! 🩺💖

🥰🐾🐾🥰

With love,

I hate, hate, hate lunges!
The END! 😂😂😂😂
Soooo instead of 4 sets of 15/leg & weights, I managed today 3 sets of 6/leg and 3 kg in each hand.

Hate, hate, hate them!😂
Ughhhhh!

Buuuuuuut, I smirked satisfied at the two dudes (dad and son) while doing my LOW SQUATS, with a 25 kg barbell on my back…. Doing 4 rounds of 12-15 reps/round.

I was the only woman at the gym today and those dudes looked dismissively towards me when I came in, because I always start with a Tai-Chi warmup.
It’s the only way to mobilize my joints and muscles and not get injured.

But it looks, NON impressive… right?😂

They could only do 5-6 squats with 20 kg and not in the neighborhood of how low mine were.

😏

Then it was my time to smirked satisfied while they passed by and I was doing my squats.

The little wins…. And retraining the brain to be comfortable in a “dude’s world” at the gym!
It’s easier when there are a lot of women at the gym, but… getting there!

Taking more space at the gym! Unapologetically!
💖💖💖💖

Foundation Happens by is the program I’m currently doing.
I always add wrist flexions/extensions and single plate holds. Not adding these to the amount of weights lifted. These are my non-negotiable exercises because I loooove having strong, steady, resilient hands for doing my dentals.

Otherwise, some other pics of how I create resilience: sparkly relationships, sparkly foods, sparkly experiences. Ok, last weekend the experiences involved DARK sparkles, because we visited the WITCHES exhibition at Örebro Castle, but about that in another post, after recovering after the deep pain felt for such a barbaric waste of intelligence, scientific thinking, medical healing capacity and I can articulate some logical sentences. ♥️😔

Why am I going to the gym?
Well…. The absolute IMMEDIATE reason is because I LOOOVE working as a veterinarian! The second -LONG TERM truth is that I FREAKING LOVE my independence and want to be the OLDEST LADY IN THE GYM, not the youngest in the assisted living facilities.

Do I like it? ACTUALLY NO, but after getting there, it’s fun!
But my brain isn’t like: OMG let’s go to the gym! In the moments before actually putting my shoes on and leaving the house, it throws all kinds of temper tantrums!

And it always plays “Tomorrow” from the Annie movie LOUDLY and ON REPEAT! 😂😂😂

And I always reply: “Not today, Satan!” 😹😹😹😹

But, I haven’t had back pain since I started following intelligently created workout programs. I have much less knee pain.

I can lift heavy dogs without problems, I can do prolonged dental procedures without pain and I know how to stretch and take care of my joints.

I pay attention to what I eat in a positive way, because I want to have strong muscles and bones.

I am going to the gym because I always believed that it’s our responsibility to operate at the best mental and physical capacity to be the best version of ourselves as humans and veterinary professionals.

S**t happens in life! Curve balls, crazy illnesses and diagnoses, accidents MIGHT happen! And if they do, I would like to be as prepared as possible to deal with them.

Stress and mind management are THE FIRST STEP!

Knowing how brains work, to be aware of how different emotions, states, bodily functions FEEL in our bodies at a sensorial level IS MANDATORY!

It makes life in this container called body much more pleasurable than fighting it.

Stress up with POSITIVE stress to be able to deal with the NEGATIVE stress.

Have an amazing rest of the week!

The secret for success? In any endeavor?
Start Small, Smart, and SIMPLE!

Become better and better every day!

🆕 PB! When I started (lifting heavy sh*t) I took a wrong turn. I hired a coach who didn’t have the competence to handle what I was specifically requesting: helping me start lifting weights.

I trusted my instincts (…. Ok, after a while…) and switched!

Woot-woot! Almost a year later, and following the programs created by I reached a new PB for the total amount of weight lifted in one session.

Success and improvement are possible even if you started your weight lifting journey in the menopause years, which proves that our brains and bodies LOOOVE challenges and thrive in learning!

Choose a GOOD mentor!
Then feel free to borrow my mantra: Start Small, Smart, and SIMPLE!
My 4S for SUCCESS!

In any challenge!

Other bragging details that I’m open with, because I don’t really care about other people’s weight lifting journeys. I’m NOT comparing and despairing! We are NOT doing that sh*t!
I don’t care if other women lift more, are more advanced, or if someone is “disappointed” by my numbers.

I really really don’t! 😂

Because I am celebrating MY success. And not putting down anyone else’s journey!

As I said, other brags: I used for the first time a 40 kg bar for RDL and did 4 sets of 12 reps! 🫣🫣🫣💖

I compared it with the type of laser focus you have when you are doing a 309 extraction in a chihuahua.

The technique and the instruments need to be sharp!

RDL 40 kg? Brace! Hip hinge till the hamstrings are elongated! Reverse the hinge!

If it hurts your back, the technique is not good or you have some kind of “weak link” that you haven’t addressed.

The same is true for the complicated extractions, or surgeries, or an ultrasound exam for that matter!

Check the mentor/ teacher!

Check the technique!

Check the instruments!

Check the patient!

Another brag: I switched the 10 kg plate for grip training to a 15 kg one! SPICYYYYYYYY 😂😂😂🌶️🌶️🌶️
Ok… I could hold it for 30 sec, 40 sec, 50 sec.

The grip strength is the most accurate predictive tool for having an independent and self-sufficient body!

Russian plank for the win!
Started with 30 sec for 9 months ago, now comfortable on a random place for 1.5 min shenanigans!

We can start consistently working out in meno-years and get strong, resilient bodies.

I see physical movement as a MANDATORY piece of having a strong mind and a fulfilling career as a veterinarian!

Strong minds + Strong bodies = SPARKLY VETERINARIANS

I think there’s been almost 7-8 months since I last started the Foundation program by and I reached the point where I stopped it to begin something new.

I restarted it because of some nagging issues with my elbows, shoulders, and my almost lifelong problems with my knees.

It is amazing what an improvement in my knees I perceived after CONSISTENTLY working out in programs that are intelligently designed for women over 35 yo!

My cranky knees, hips, back and my mobility got almost destroyed when I followed the training program of a 28 yo guy, social media “superstar” in Sweden, who had at that point over 55K followers.

I could do a machine seated leg curl with max 2.5 kg load for max 10 reps! And then, the knees would get cranky in a STOP! BAD! way.

Today it was time to revisit the same exercise! I am kidding you not!
4 SETS av 9-15 REPS at 20 kg! 😱🏋🏻‍♀️
And the stop was dictated by muscle failure NOT joint pain!

Love! Love! Love our bodies’ ability to heal and improve!

Movement is healing!

Thankful for the amazing ladies and

The next program after completing this round of Foundations will be Power Happens Intermediate!

I’m in the training phase of this year where I’m doing a Foundation work created by the sparkly

It’s ELEMENTARY, that we need to create a healthy, solid ground for any habit!

It improves the weak links, adjusts left-right imbalances and creates the possibility for growth.

Taking care of physical and mental health are ALWAYS interconnected.

I want to have a strong, resilient body, I want independence and a long career as a veterinarian.

It starts with BASIC BIOLOGY! Sleep, movement, laughter, fun, expressing emotions.

Want to know what I was doing behind the scenes in the last year? Listen to the latest episode of Life Coaching for Veterinarians Podcast!

Be advised that irreverent language is heavily present!🤬🤬🤬
You can find it on all your favorite podcast platforms, including Spotify, Audible, Apple Podcasts and so on.

Extremely relevant for humans born in female bodies and who are above 40 years of age.

I broke my personal best (as an 18 months old and still novice in the weight lifting area I’m pretty proud of myself now!) ✨✨✨

GIVE ME ALL THE GOODIE CHICKEN/ VEGGIES/ NICECREAM TO BUILD ME SOME MUSCLES NOW! 😂😂😂

Please, People, and especially Meno-People! Eat at least 1 g protein/ lbs bw or 2.2 g/kg BW to protect your muscles and bones!

The workout is 60 min, but I added some stretches, mobility exercises and some weak links training, including a 5 min self-induced hypnosis at the end, to go into that parasympathetic mood after.

I always try to add some wrist and grip exercises, especially bc I looooove doing dentals and I know how many colleagues get problems with both posture and their wrists and have to stop doing what they love!

Such a loss for our profession!

That applies for large animal veterinarians, or colleagues who have desk-jobs they adore, but totally ignore or listen to how to support their bodies to be able to keeping doing their jobs.
