A great evening last night at Snickarbacken 7. Alexander Mahmoud's work and presentation, as well as the talk given by Esther from Eritrea, were invaluable as we try to comprehend the complex issue of migration.

We are pleased to have been able to ensure that this important exhibition is now on show in Sweden after having been seen around the world.

Launching our development communications agency during the Global Schools conference at Sida - Styrelsen för Internationellt Utvecklingssamarbete couldn't have been a better place to start. MAR, through documentary photography by emerging and established photographers, brings attention to issues of importance affecting society and the environment.

As topics of sustainability and education were discussed at the conferance we underlined them by showing work by Dutch photographer Kadir van Lohuizen (NOOR) which highlights the issue of global waste, and Swedish photographer Vilhelm Stokstad(Kontinent) which looks at the labour conditions in Pakistan. Both bodies of work examine issues impacting local communities which are driven by global forces.

PORTRAITS OF MIGRATION - ALEXANDER MAHMOUD Snickarbacken 7 Stockholm until 7 August.

We are very proud to support the exhibition “Portraits of Migration” by the fantastic Alexander Mahmoud (Kontinent Agency).

Initiated by the Swedish Institute the exhibition traces twenty stories of migration. We learn of stories from across the generations, from couples and singles, from those who’ve recently arrived in Sweden and those who made Sweden their home many years ago. As labels such as ‘migrant’ and ’immigrant’ become ever more charged, Portraits of Migration shows us people with histories, hope ambitions and fears just like the rest of us.

The issue of migration will play a considerable role in how people choose to cast their votes during Sweden's imminent general election. This sensitive exhibition helps us gain a better understanding of the realities that lie behind the headlines.

Twenty people share their experiences of migration to Sweden. These portraits of migration are their personal stories of flight, trauma – and hope.
