Not every attempt succeeds. But some failures shape what comes next.

Before Epishine, there was an earlier attempt to turn promising research into something commercial. It never took off, but the lessons from it would help shape a very different approach.

Every product starts with its purpose.
A computer mouse should fit naturally in your hand. A remote should feel intuitive to use. A sensor should disappear into its surroundings. Yet many products still end up being designed around their power source rather than the user.
Somewhere inside an otherwise carefully engineered product sits a battery compartment or a power connection. The design adapts around it with added thickness, removable covers, or cable routing. For decades, these compromises have simply been accepted as part of product design.
But what if the power source is adapted to the product instead?

Test an indoor solar cell under different laboratory setups and the reported performance can differ by up to 60%.

Not because the cell changed, but because differences in light sources, test setups and measurement procedures can significantly affect the results. A new Consensus Statement published in Nature Energy, building on IEC TS 62607-7-2, sets shared reference conditions for indoor photovoltaics and proposes best practices for evaluating performance and establishing baseline stability tests.

This is an important step for the indoor photovoltaics industry. Our R&D Director and co-founder Thomas Österberg previously helped call for greater alignment on measurement standards in a Joule paper, Reaching a consensus on indoor photovoltaics testing, This builds on IEC TS 62607-7-2 for indoor PV measurements.

For us at Epishine, shared measurement practices mean greater transparency, more meaningful comparisons and better decisions for anyone integrating light energy harvesting into their products.

Last week, the Epishine team went on a getaway to reflect on the journey we've been on together. As we celebrate 10 years, we looked back at what we've achieved, but even more importantly, at the failures and lessons that have shaped us. Those experiences are what we'll carry with us into the next chapter.

One thing became especially clear: everything we've built started with our people. Our technology is the result of a decade of hands-on work, curiosity, and persistence from an exceptional team and individuals. 💜

The real value we've created isn't found in a single breakthrough, but in the thousands of small decisions, improvements, and lessons that have turned great ideas into products that perform reliably for years.

There's a version of Epishine's story that starts with a solar cell.
This isn't that one. It starts with a queue.

Ten years ago, one person stood in line after a pitch and just wouldn't stop asking questions.

Designing a light energy harvesting device involves several considerations, such as understanding what the application needs, the environment the device will operate in, how it integrates into the product, and how the components work well together.

The Epishine team, together with our partner network, can help you select and optimize these components so the system works efficiently under your specific conditions.

Most people think of solar cells as rigid, fragile, and expensive to produce. Epishine's indoor solar cells are none of those things, and it starts with how they're made.

At Epishine, we manufacture our indoor solar cells using a process called roll-to-roll (R2R) printing. It's the same fundamental principle behind newspaper printing or RFID label production: a flexible substrate moves continuously from one roll to another, with functional layers applied along the way. The result is not just a better manufacturing method. It's a fundamentally different way of thinking about what indoor photovoltaics can be and who can access them.
Here's why it matters.
