John Nilsson, Swedavia is one of the speakers at our seminar during the Corus demonstration days this week. He will talk about Climate-smart fossil-free airports - how should we adapt our airports to the fossil-free aircraft of the future.

“Swedavia has far-reaching ambitions to achieve net-zero carbon in the aviation industry. Since 2020, we have been fossil free in our own operations at all 10 of our airports. We also support our partners in the transition through an ambitious partnership plan with the aim of minimizing aviation's climate impact on the basis that ground operations run by partners at our airports must also be fossil-free by 2025. The next step we are taking is to plan for fossil-free aircraft at our airports, from battery-powered to hydrogen-powered electric vehicles but also by accelerating the conversion to SAF. Already today, we have charging stations in place for electric flights at, among others, Visby Airport and Åre Östersund Airport to meet the changeover. The next step is to understand the market, develop forecasts and scenarios linked to business models, realize what ground measures are required but also that our passengers are offered a seamless journey at the airport. An airport is a complex and multifaceted area, and adaptation to new types of aircraft must be coordinated with other parts of the airport”

IBG attended the Green Flyway Seminar. During the seminar we presented work in the project and how infrastructure planning will be an important factor for Advanced Air Mobility to strive going forward.

Kim Silander also announced the A*M team. A separate infrastructure company within the IBG family focusing solely on the Advanced Air Mobility market helping municipalities and regions to elevate their planning and ultimately their cities.

Jan-Olof Ehk from the A*M team presented IBG's findings in the Green Flyway project.

The workshop in Östersund was attended by EASA and EUROCONTROL and attracted a huge audience from the Swedish and Norwegian AAM sector. The audience could see presentations from Air Forestry, Pure Flight, Blackwing, Swedish CAA, XPeng, Aviant and more. Pure Flight also offered test flights with their small electrical aircraft U15E ΦNIX. Overall a well organised workshop with interesting presentations and panel discussions moderated by Fredrik Kämpfe from the Swedish Business Association.

Independent Business Group (IBG) is delighted to announce the successful implementation of its new airspace design for Qatar. Together with support from Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) and using our own team of airspace designers and specialists the company completely redesigned the air route solution that delivers aircraft safely and efficiently from international air routes to the threshold of every runway in Qatar, both civil and military.

The new airspace design went into service successfully at 3am on September 8th, 2022 thanks to the excellent cooperation between QCAA and IBG, the two parties solely responsible for the design and implementation of this critical piece of infrastructure. The new design will ensure that the increased air traffic that will operate in and around Qatar during the FIFA World Cup 2022 event can operate smoothly and with enhanced safety. The transition marks a significant milestone in IBG’s prestigious Flight Information Region (FIR) project in Qatar.

Deya Gebara was honoured to be joined by Nasser Al Khalaf (QCAA, Head of Air Traffic Operations and QFIR Steering Committee Chairman) and Keith Marshall (IBG Programme Manager) during this prestigious moment.

The QFIR Project undoubtedly achieves all the aspirations of its Stakeholders, all of whom have made significant contributions to its success. In delivering this IBG Sweden have and continue to benefit from close coordination with the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, Qatar Emiri Airforce, Hamad International Airport and the excellent support of Qatar Airways. The project has also benefited from several well-established sub-contractors to IBG. These include Leonardo Spa, Thales Group, Bayanat, SAAB AB, MicroNav, Metron, Frequentis, Honeywell, Skyguide of Switzerland and many others.
