Independent Business Group (IBG) is delighted to announce the successful implementation of its new airspace design for Qatar. Together with support from Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) and using our own team of airspace designers and specialists the company completely redesigned the air route solution that delivers aircraft safely and efficiently from international air routes to the threshold of every runway in Qatar, both civil and military.
The new airspace design went into service successfully at 3am on September 8th, 2022 thanks to the excellent cooperation between QCAA and IBG, the two parties solely responsible for the design and implementation of this critical piece of infrastructure. The new design will ensure that the increased air traffic that will operate in and around Qatar during the FIFA World Cup 2022 event can operate smoothly and with enhanced safety. The transition marks a significant milestone in IBG’s prestigious Flight Information Region (FIR) project in Qatar.
Deya Gebara was honoured to be joined by Nasser Al Khalaf (QCAA, Head of Air Traffic Operations and QFIR Steering Committee Chairman) and Keith Marshall (IBG Programme Manager) during this prestigious moment.
The QFIR Project undoubtedly achieves all the aspirations of its Stakeholders, all of whom have made significant contributions to its success. In delivering this IBG Sweden have and continue to benefit from close coordination with the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, Qatar Emiri Airforce, Hamad International Airport and the excellent support of Qatar Airways. The project has also benefited from several well-established sub-contractors to IBG. These include Leonardo Spa, Thales Group, Bayanat, SAAB AB, MicroNav, Metron, Frequentis, Honeywell, Skyguide of Switzerland and many others.
