What an amazing end to the Ideate program!!💥🤩

On December 9th, just in time before any new restrictions, the Auditorium was filled to the brim as the 5 teams from Ideate pitched their ideas they had come up with and started working with during the 10-week program. The teams not only had to impress the audience, but also the esteemed jury, who at the end chose Re:circle as the winner, and restyle as runner-up. Congratulations! 🎉

Huge thanks to everyone who came to attend, the jury, the entrepreneurial panel of Lovisa Qvarner, Max Friberg and Vahid Toosi, the Ideate partners Accenture, Hedqvist & Loosme, Dell Technologies, BOARDA and Stockholms Borgerskap, the incredible SSE Business Lab team who made the program possible, and of course most of all the amazing participants in the program. We look forward to hopefully continuing supporting your innovative ideas in our Activate and Incubate programs! 🚀🦄

🦄 UNICORN ALERT 🦄

Huge congratulations to our alumni company who just announced raising 115 million USD, at a valuation exceeding 1 billion USD!! With this, Voi reaches the prestigious unicorn club, an incredibly impressive milestone given they started out at SSE Business Lab as recently as 2018 🛴

Leaving a successful year behind them with 140% revenue growth, this new funding will enable Voi to enter into even more European markets and expand their fleet. They will also continue being fully committed to sustainability, and having reached carbon neutrality in 2020, their sights are now set on becoming climate negative by 2030 🌍

We couldn’t be more proud to have yet another unicorn in our portfolio, and look forward to supporting your ideas to reach their full potential. The next deadline to apply to our Activate and Incubate programs is February 6 🚀

🎤 The fourth and final guest lecture of Ideate fall 2021 was on Exciting Investors About Your Idea with Elsa Bernadotte, founder of  🌽

Elsa is both a serial entrepreneur and an angel investors, and could share perspectives from both sides of the negotiation table when it comes to fundraising. Elsa talked about the journey they have had with Karma, and how they used storytelling to sell the long term vision of the company to attract some of Sweden’s top investors. She also talked about what she looks for as an angel in the teams she meets; energy, passion and conviction 🚀

📚 Another book we loved, this time from - on why generalists triumph in a specialized world, and why it might be good to try different careers before settling…

🥇 Plenty of experts argue that anyone who wants to excel at a skill should start early and focus intensely. But a closer look at research on the world’s top performers, from professional athletes to Nobel laureates, shows that early specialization is the exception, not the rule.

In his research, David Epstein discovered that in most fields - especially those that are complex and unpredictable, like entrepreneurship - generalists, not specialists, are primed to excel.

They’re also more creative, more agile, and able to make connections their more specialized peers can’t see. 🏆

🎤 The third guest lecture of Ideate fall 2021 was on The Entrepreneurial Journey with Willard Ahdritz, founder of  🎶

Willard spoke about how he completely disrupted the music industry, giving back more power (and money) to the artists from the record labels. Having founded his first company, Telegram Records, while still studying at SSE, and having been a saxophone player, Willard also talked about the importance of trusting your team (or band!) Today, the Kobalt brand consists of a portfolio of music related companies, including a capital firm investing in music rights 💰

🎤 The second guest lecture of Ideate fall 2021 was on Building Brands People Care About, with Lisa Lindström, founder and CEO of and Chief Experience Officer at 🌍

Lisa shared the story of how she ended up learning html in the 90s when no one else was doing it, to founding Doberman in 1998 as a digital design agency, when people barely understood digital. Lisa walked us through the different company-defining moments of Doberman through the past 23 years and how they helped build some of the brands people in Sweden care the most about today. Today, Lisa heads up the work with “Experience” at EY after the acquisition in 2020 and says they now have the power to really create a change in the world with design 🎨
