Words have power. However, stories are shaped, not just from our words but also our experiences. If we have the courage to tell our truth, it is possible to – as we give others the opportunity to share in our experience strength and hope and find their own voice in the process.
Our stories can come as recordings, poetry, prose, novels, and can be shown through our actions. by living out who we are. As founding editor for Nina-Iraq magazine, a world-bank funded magazine, launched in 2014 I wrote ‘Nina.’ My poem told the story of women who had suffered, but also set out the power of an international network of support. Post Covid, and in the midst of global conflict, we must continue to raise our voices. This is how we come together and forge a better tomorrow for all of us.
Write with purpose, write with power. Share who you are. It matters.
