🎙️ IT Talks 297: Golden Kuestronauts - the rockstars of Kubernetes

Guests: Pip Oomen, Emil Hjelle, Ole Mathias Heggem and Anders Smith Language: Norwegian
Duration: 29.04 min

Developing Kubernetes expertise takes both technical knowledge and hands-on practice. In this episode, four Redpill Linpro consultants who have earned the Golden Kubestronaut title share how certification helped them broaden their skills across Kubernetes and the cloud-native ecosystem.

They explain the different Kubernetes and CNCF certifications, including multiple-choice exams and practical tests, and discuss how validated knowledge can strengthen a consultant’s profile and support customer work.

Their advice for building your own skills:
• Build your own environments to put theory into practice.
• Experiment, break things and learn from troubleshooting.
• Practice navigating the documentation, not just memorising answers.

The conversation also explores networking, platform engineering and the growing role of AI in cloud-native environments. Listen for practical insights into certification preparation and continuous technical learning.

The technology exists – but how do we make change happen?

This week, Redpill Linpro and brought together professionals working with the digital workplace in Stockholm for Digital Sovereignty in Practice.

Throughout the morning, we explored digital sovereignty, secure collaboration solutions, and how organisations can turn ambition into action.

One key takeaway? 💡 The technology is already there, but real change takes more than the right tools. It's also about people, ways of working, and a willingness to think differently.

We've gathered seven key insights from the roundtable in our latest blog post.

🎙️ IT Talks 296: Can we really trust AI?

Guest: Fredrik Heintz, Professor of Computer Science at Linköping University
Language: Swedish
Duration: 31:59 min

AI can solve complex problems and write code, yet still make basic mistakes. Strong performance in one task does not guarantee reliability in another. In this episode, Fredrik Heintz explains why understanding these uneven capabilities is essential to building trust in AI.

The conversation explores key questions for organisations adopting AI:
• When can we rely on AI, and where do its limitations matter?
• How is AI changing cybersecurity?
• How can public organisations make better use of their data?

Fredrik also explains why AI is more likely to change the tasks within jobs than simply replace entire roles. Looking ahead, the discussion explores what happens when AI moves beyond digital tools into robots, drones and other physical systems.

Listen for a clearer understanding of AI’s capabilities, limitations and implications for the decisions your organisation makes.

🎙️ IT Talks 294: European digital sovereignty in practice

Guest: Alexander Rosenthal
Language: English
Duration: 37:45 min

Europe is increasingly talking about digital sovereignty, and the German state of Schleswig-Holstein is already putting it into practice. Alexander Rosenthal, Head of https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0yqmXb0, explains how the state is reducing its dependence on proprietary platforms by moving towards open source.

Around 80 percent of office licenses have already been replaces, while email, cloud services and parts of the desktop environment are being migrated to open alternatives. But digital sovereignty is not just about technology. It is about control, responsibility and the ability to act when geopolitical or commercial dependencies become a risk.

The conversation explores what Schleswig-Holstein have learned from their eight-year journey, why leadership and change management are critical, and why Rosenthal believes Europe already has the knowledge, companies and resources needed to become more digitally independent.

🎙️ IT Talks 293 AI makes seniors faster – but how do juniors become seniors?

Guest: Gustaf Nilstadius
Language: Swedish
Duration: 24:29 min

AI can make experienced developers dramatically more productive by handling repetitive code, tests and routine tasks. But Gustaf Nilstadius, AI Lead at Redpill Linpro, sees a growing challenge, senior developers use AI to avoid doing something for the hundredth time, while juniors may use it to avoid doing it for the first time.

The conversation explores what happens when new developers skip the mistakes and problem-solving that build real expertise. Debugging, databases, networking, security and understanding how systems actually work may become even more valuable in an AI-driven industry. The challenge is not stopping juniors from using AI, but making sure AI does not remove the learning required to become senior.

🎙️ IT Talks 292: AI first or AI Dependent?

Guest: Gustaf Nilstadius
Language: Swedish
Duration: 29.31 min

AI is transforming software development, but should every company really aim to become “AI First”? Gustaf Nilstadius, AI Lead at Redpill Linpro, argues that AI should be treated as a powerful tool rather than a goal in itself.

The conversation explores when traditional, deterministic code can be cheaper, safer and more transparent than an LLM, and the risks of building critical business processes around external AI providers.

They also discuss data ownership, costs, digital sovereignty and what happens if models change, disappear or become unavailable. The key question for every new AI initiative: do we really need AI for this?

🎙️IT Talks 289: From containers to AI-driven infrastructure

In this episode, Per Stene returns to the podcast to share an update on Kubernetes, OpenShift, and container platforms, four years after his previous visit.

The conversation explores how Kubernetes has moved from being an emerging technology to becoming a standard part of modern IT environments. At the same time, these platforms have grown more complex, more costly to operate, and more critical to business operations.

Per also discusses several important trends shaping the field, including edge computing, air-gapped environments, GitOps, and Infrastructure as Code. He explains why many organizations are also reassessing the role of their own data centers, particularly in relation to security, control, and digital sovereignty.

Another key topic is the growing role of AI in Kubernetes operations. From monitoring and troubleshooting to more automated platform management, AI is beginning to change how these environments are run. Kubernetes is unlikely to disappear, but developers will increasingly interact with it through higher-level abstractions rather than managing every layer directly.
