Real Trader Journey
From Blown Accounts to Discipline
One of the traders in our community recently shared his journey. His story reflects the reality most traders experience before they become consistent.
“I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to Johan for not giving up on me, for constantly encouraging me, and for believing in me even when I struggled to believe in myself.
Trading has a way of shaping you as a person. Over the years I have blown multiple accounts. I’ve also had moments where I grew accounts by 400–500% and even doubled them in a single day. At one time I thought those moments were something to be proud of. Now I understand that they are not the habits of a good trader.
A good trader stays calm when he wins and disciplined when he loses. He follows the plan instead of chasing excitement.
There was a point where I lost the courage to fund my account again, so I stepped away for a while. In February 2026 I funded my account again and finished the month with a 25% gain. That came with fear, hesitation, and careful risk management. I took 49 trades that month and the strategy carried me through.
Since the first week of March until today I’ve made about 140% on my February closing balance and taken 58 trades in just two weeks. The numbers look fantastic, but I want to be honest with myself. That level of trading is not sustainable. Overtrading eventually destroys accounts.
So I’m writing this publicly as a reminder to myself. I will not take any more trades this week. Next week I will limit myself to five trades. Discipline is the next hurdle I need to master.
Even if I had taken only 20 trades instead of 58, I probably would have made around 50% on the account, which is already better than my February performance. Sometimes less really is more.
While many traders are learning how to find setups, I’m currently learning how to respect limits. Becoming profitable is one challenge. Staying consistently profitable is much harder because success can easily turn into overconfidence and excessive leverage.
Once again, thank you Johan for standing by me even on my hardest days.”
