Opening Agapi Boat Club has opened our eyes in many ways, one of them being new favorite locations. The loveliest part is to share that with our members! Here’s a short version of ’Agapi Routes’ for you with a few handpicked locations in Crete.
Domata has 3 beaches that are only accessible by boat, so privacy and pure wilderness is what you get! Fantastic beaches, huge cliffs and a vast forested area on the rocks.
Agios Pavlos which is a church that is 1100 years old having survived 7 wars that is located literally on the beach. Right in front of the church, less that one meter from the sea, dig with your hands a small whole on the sand and drink the water! No salt in it. How? Because the water that is there is fresh which is a result of the melting snow on all of the 40 mountaintops. A truly unique experience. Watch out though! Fresh water from the mountains means cold water, so think twice if you want to swim!
Marmaro in Greek means marble. There are 3 caves overwater in which you can swim, two are connected at the end and the other one with a beach inside. The Marmara beach sits right before the caves and on top of the beach you find Café Taverna Marmara. The one and only tavern in the area, which was voted the best tavern of the Mediterranean in 2017! Local dishes like tsigariasto can be tasted there as well as the extraordinary donuts, which are always on the house after your meal.
Loutro Bay probably the most famous village of the area and the south coast. Book a table for lunch or dinner at Restaurant Ilios (order fish soup). Loutro can be reached only by boat. At night, lights are facing the rocks of the mountains behind the houses creating a fantastic view and atmosphere.
Gavdos, a unique island from all perspectives. Known for naturism (nudism), fresh fish and extraordinary hospitality. When in Gavdos one will experience people literally staying at the beach inside tents or self-made structures on the beach that provide them protection and cover. When it is windy on one side of the island people just pack their staff and walk to the other side and vise versa. No sunbeds or beach bars, just trees to provide shade and pure super soft white and gold sand on the beach.
