In this paper we demonstrate that the transgenic NKT cells drive a type 1 inflammatory response involving the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome and promote a switch to a predominantly reparative/profibrotic response through the production of type 2 cytokines. These findings demonstrate that NKT cells can play important roles in the control of chronic liver inflammation, both proinflammatory type 1 inflammation and profibrotic type 2 inflammation.
