Why are approvals getting faster?

In this clip from our conversation with Rick Berke and Cytiva's Zock Zamaniyan at BIO International, Zock shares what he's seeing: expanded expedited pathways, more first-cycle approvals, and less regulatory rework.
The result? Less friction getting promising therapies through the process.

The next challenge in ADC development may not be finding more candidates. It may be understanding them better, earlier.

As ADC programs advance, understanding complex molecular interactions can be critical to making confident development decisions.

SPR provides real-time insights into affinity and kinetics, helping teams characterize complex interactions, reduce uncertainty, and make more informed decisions earlier in the development journey.

Reliable aseptic filling starts long before a vial reaches the line. It begins with how the system is built, and with the people who build it.

In From design to delivery: SA25 aseptic filling workcell at INITS, we close the story with Neil Fulgueras and Michael Friesen, who offer a behind-the-scenes look at our Burnaby site. Each SA25 is assembled from more than 4,000 parts, following defines processes that help ensure every unit performs the way customers expect.

Their work shows how careful assembly and attention to detail translate into dependable filling systems.

🔬 Blocked again: the most underestimated step in Western blotting.

High background, weak signal, or poor reproducibility often trace back to one step we tend to rush: blocking.

In our latest article: Block smarter, blot better, we break down the core principles behind effective Western blot blocking.

Blocking - because your antibodies deserve boundaries.

A new phase for genomic medicine is taking shape.

Across the field, scientists are working to expand access to the therapeutic toolbox – for drug developers, clinicians, and ultimately, patients.

As in vivo approaches continue to evolve, the potential is clear. But so are the challenges.

What will it take to make these innovations more accessible and scalable in practice?

Where do you see the biggest opportunities or challenges? Share your perspective in the comments.

Adding new filling capacity requires more than equipment, it requires clarity. Teams need to know what to expect: timelines, key steps, and how the system will fit into their operations.

In From design to delivery: SA25 aseptic filling workcell at INITS, we continue the story with Scott Harper, who shares how having a clear, repeatable delivery process made planning easier for INITS. Scott also notes what many customers look for: flexibility, consistent results, and a straightforward path as they move toward clinical production.
His insight highlights something we hear across the industry: predictability matters.

More than 20 phage therapy clinical trials were underway in 2025.

The question is no longer whether bacteriophages are therapeutically interesting. It's whether they can be manufactured consistently enough to reach more patients.

That's the challenge being explored through PHOENIX – a collaboration between Biofactory Competence Center, CRISP - Centre de recherche et d’innovation en sciences pharmaceutiques cliniques CHUV and Cytiva, focused on developing scalable purification approaches for therapeutic bacteriophages.

In this video, an ÄKTA flux s arrives at BCC, where it will support tangential flow filtration (TFF) steps within the project.

It's an exciting example of academia, healthcare and industry working together to tackle some very real process development challenges.

The body has the potential to become the place where therapies are created, not just delivered.

This shift points to a new way of thinking about how medicines are developed. It moves away from complex external manufacturing and toward enabling therapies to be created within the patient.

As genomic medicine advances, expanding access to the therapeutic toolbox for developers, clinicians, and patients will be key.

What role do you see in vivo approaches playing in that future?

With the FDA’s 2025 guidance placing greater emphasis on comparative analytical data, the bar for binding characterisation just got higher. It’s no longer enough to show that biosimilar binds; regulators want to understand how it binds too.

Biacore SPR technology supports this shift by providing real-time, label‑free kinetic data aligned with today’s regulatory expectations, including:

✅ Binding kinetics and affinity to confirm similar target engagement
✅ Fc receptor interactions relevant to mechanism of action and safety
✅ Impact of post‑translational modifications (PTMs) such as glycosylation or charge variants
✅ Sensorgram‑derived kinetic profiles for biosimilar and reference comparison

Together, these capabilities help reduce uncertainty and strengthen regulatory submissions.
