Should 1st-time homeowner go for BTO instead of Resale HDB?
The first thing to ask yourself, "Do I get to inspect the property that I am purchasing?"
If you were to buy a new iPhone or Samsung mobile phone at the shop, the salesperson will open up the seal of the box and pass the phone for you to check. If you are inspecting for something that cost $900 plus, why are you not inspecting the biggest purchase in your lifetime $3xx K, $4xx K or even more? You don't get to inspect your BTO at point of purchase.
Secondly, do you get to negotiate on the purchase if you buy a BTO direct from HDB? I think all should know the answer is NO.
Lastly, are you given $80k to $160k grant for purchasing a BTO? Again answer here is NO. Why are you not taking advantage of this to finance your 1st home?
