“Building Legacy through Change Leadership”
This was the underlying theme of Wong Mei Wai's guest lecture, where she shared her Change & Transformation stories during Professor Dr. Pisitta Vongswasdi's People-Oriented Leadership session for the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA in Vallendar, Germany.
Addressing a distinguished cohort of around 70 EMBA global executives and senior professionals from the Kellogg EMBA programmes (Germany, Chicago, Miami, Canada, Hong Kong, and Beijing), Mei Wai shared her Change stories and insights from years of working as a serial Change Agent across industries alongside CEOs, Boards, and senior leadership teams in family businesses and listed organisations across APAC and globally.
Drawing from her work in organisational Change leadership across Brand, Technology, and People, she spoke candidly about leading transformation in complex and evolving business environments.
Themes emerged consistently across her successful Change journeys:
• Change Begins with Ourselves
Leaders who genuinely embrace change and work on themselves drive stronger organisational change outcomes than those who rush into surface-level change.
• Be That “Bridge” with Change
More successful change occurs when leaders effectively bridge change challenges through clarity, trust, oversight, and hands-on leadership.
• Be Prepared to “Dance” with Change
Because change is “live,” leaders must adapt in real time to emotional, organisational, and multi-cultural realities.
• The Softer Side of Change Is Harder to Observe
The psychodynamics of change, including human behaviour, organisational psychology, team dynamics, and culture, are often underestimated despite their impact on success or failure.
• Build Your Brand
Strong change leaders build both organisational capability and personal credibility. Mei Wai also shared her perspectives and tips on developing a trusted leadership brand in transformation environments.
The programme concluded with a farewell boat party on the Rhine River following their two-year EMBA programme. Amidst meeting new faces, conversations continued about the future of leadership, family business legacy and cross-cultural change management. What a celebration of a two-year learning journey, while creatively presenting their winning AI music developments, which was truly impressive!
Thank you to Professor Dr. Pisitta Vongswasdi and WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management for hosting an engaging dialogue on leadership and Change. Special thanks to Katrin Baedorf and Amirtha Raja for your warm welcome and for making Mei Wai's journey smooth and special in Germany.
As organisations continue to navigate disruption, the ability to lead change effectively remains a defining leadership capability.
