When retrenchment happens, knowing your rights and where to seek support matters.

In this case, NTUC PME supported a worker whose retrenchment benefit cap had been reduced. Following review and mediation, the employer agreed to provide the full 12 months of retrenchment benefits, an additional $72,000.

A reminder that workers do not have to navigate difficult employment situations alone.

Retrenchment can be a difficult transition for workers. Stronger safeguards and timely support can make a meaningful difference.

In Parliament, Labour MPs highlighted the importance of protecting retrenched workers and strengthening support where needed — especially for workers in non-unionised companies.

This reinforces the value of union representation in supporting workers through workplace changes and ensuring their interests are represented.
