A fire can leave behind more than visible damage.

On 24 June, a fire broke out at a floating fish farm off Lorong Halus Jetty, affecting at least two farms rearing sea bass. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

However, the impact was still significant. According to CNA, the main farm affected estimated losses of around S$120,000, excluding rebuilding costs.

This incident is a reminder that fire safety is not only about protecting lives, but also about protecting livelihoods, equipment, operations, and business continuity.

For farms, worksites, commercial premises, and industrial spaces, fire risks can come from many sources.

Regular checks, proper fire protection systems, suitable extinguishers, clear emergency plans, and staff awareness can make a major difference when every second counts.

Stay prepared. Stay protected.

A fire can start when you least expect it, even from something as routine as charging a device.

On 21 June, five people had to be evacuated after a power-assisted bicycle (PAB) battery that was left charging unattended caught fire in a Geylang condominium unit. No injuries were reported.

This is a timely reminder for all active mobility device users:

• Do not leave batteries or devices charging unattended
• Do not charge them overnight or for extended periods
• Avoid using non-original or modified batteries
• Charge devices away from exits and flammable items
• Ensure your home or premises have proper fire safety equipment nearby

A few safe charging habits can make a big difference in preventing electrical fires and protecting those around you.

Stay prepared. Stay protected.

A recent fire at a Yishun HDB flat is a reminder that electrical fire risks can start small, but spread quickly.

According to SCDF’s preliminary findings, the fire was likely of electrical origin and had started in a bedroom. The blaze also caused burn damage to the living room and affected the air-conditioning compressor of the unit above.

To reduce electrical fire risks at home:
• Do not overload power outlets
• Switch off appliances when not in use
• Use appliances and plugs with the Safety Mark
• Check wires regularly and replace frayed or cracked cords
• Avoid leaving devices charging unattended or overnight

Fire safety starts with everyday habits. Equip your home with the right fire safety essentials and stay prepared before an emergency happens.

Fire Safety Basics: What Is A Fire Alarm System Made Up Of?

A fire alarm system is more than just a bell or flashing light. It is a connected network of devices designed to detect signs of fire, alert building occupants, and activate protection systems to reduce risk.

Key components include:
• Fire Detectors: Sense smoke, heat, or flames
• Manual Call Points: Allow anyone to trigger the alarm during an emergency
• Fire Alarm Devices: Provide sound and/or visual alerts
• Fire Service Signalling Transmitter: Sends alarm and fault signals to the fire service
• Alarm Monitoring Station: Receives signals 24/7 and coordinates emergency response
• Control for Automatic Fire Protection Equipment: Operates connected systems such as fans, dampers, doors, and lift recall
• Automatic Fire Protection Equipment: Helps control or suppress the fire
• Power Supply Equipment: Keeps the system running with primary and backup power

Every component plays an important role in keeping people and properties safe.

A fire at Gul Crescent is a strong reminder that industrial fires can escalate quickly.

This is especially true when waste materials, chemicals, and large storage spaces are involved.

According to SCDF, the fire involved a warehouse about the size of a football field, with firefighting operations requiring multiple water jets, firefighting machines, and an aerial monitor.

While there were no reported injuries at the time of SCDF’s update, incidents like this show why fire safety cannot be treated as an afterthought.

For industrial and warehouse premises, proper fire protection systems, regular maintenance, safe storage practices, and clear emergency procedures can make all the difference in limiting damage and protecting lives.

Stay prepared. Stay compliant. Stay safe.

A fire does not end when the flames are put out.

The recent yacht fire at Sentosa Cove is a reminder that the impact of a fire can last well beyond the blaze itself.

This is why fire safety should never be treated as an afterthought.

Regular inspections, properly maintained fire protection systems, and early detection can make a critical difference in reducing risk and limiting damage during an emergency.

At King Fire, we help businesses and property owners stay prepared with reliable fire safety solutions, service, and maintenance support.

Because prevention is always better than recovery.

Is your kitchen fire suppression system due for servicing?

Under the SCDF Fire Code, wet chemical fire extinguishing systems for kitchen exhaust hoods must be of an approved type and based on international standards such as NFPA 17A.

This means the maintenance requirement does not stop at installation.

NFPA 17A stipulates that these systems should be serviced at least once every six months to help ensure they remain ready when needed.

For F&B operators, building owners and QPs, regular servicing is not just a best practice.

It is an important part of staying compliant, protecting your premises and keeping your team and customers safe.

- Approved system
- NFPA 17A standard
- Maintenance awareness
