Today (15th Feb 2023) is Total Defence Day. To mark this important day, FBS International LLP has just made a pledge of our support towards Singapore’s National Service (NS) and Total Defence with the following declaration:

We acknowledge that National Service (NS) is the cornerstone of our nation's peace and security. Our National Servicemen (NSmen) fulfil their responsibilities dutifully to provide a safe and secure environment for Singapore and Singaporeans to grow and thrive.

We recognise the importance of National Service and accept that it is a shared responsibility. Our support and recognition of our NSmen's contributions will strengthen their commitment to serve.

Therefore, we pledge that:

1. We will honour and uphold our duty as employers of NSmen as laid out in the Enlistment Act (Cap 93, Part VI).

2. We will recognise and appreciate the skills acquired and values inculcated in our NSmen through National Service.

3. We will actively support our NSmen to manage their National Service commitments.

4. We will readily commit our civil assets and services in support of Total Defence and support our nation in national crises or emergencies.

FBS International LLP has made our Green Nation Pledge as a contributor by committing not to use bottled water for meetings/events and to reduce the use of single-use disposables.

This is in addition to our ongoing efforts to further digitalize our work flow and processes to reduce the need for paper.

The Green Nation Pledge, supported by Singapore’s Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, was launched on 19 September 2022.

Individuals, educational institutions and organizations are invited to come forward to make a pledge to take action, and help make Singapore a green, livable and climate-resilient home.

We are encouraged to know that many businesses are already proactively incorporating sustainability in their work processes and business models.

FBS International LLP (Singapore) welcomes this new framework to protect biodiversity. However, we note that the framework does not mention "Nature Positive" which is considered as the biodiversity equivalent of net zero. As such, humanity has to be guard against possible greenwashing measures that could open up new possibilities for offsetting biodiversity destruction, rather than halting it. Nonetheless, this new framework meant we could now hope for real progress to halt biodiversity loss.

The plan will put 30% of the planet under protection by the end of the decade.

The rights of our furry friends are celebrated annually on International Animal Rights Day on December 10. The holiday is shared with Human Rights Day, as it should be, because animals have the right to be treated with respect, and acts of cruelty against them need to end just as much as for humans.

On December 7 we celebrate International Civil Aviation Day to acknowledge the flight industry’s influence on modern life. It’s incredible to think that in less than 24 hours you can transport your body to pretty much anywhere in the world. Flying has made the world a much smaller place and had a huge impact on our lives. Today we celebrate the impact of flying and are thankful that it has opened so many doors for all of us.
