Thailand to open more working sectors to foreign companies

More than 7,000 cannabis shops across Thailand have closed after choosing not to renew their operating licences, following the latest tightening of the cannabis business rules.

The Ministry of Public Health in Thailand released new data from Dec 28, 2025, showing that there were 18,433 licensed cannabis shops nationwide. Almost half of the licences, or 8,636 to be exact, expired last year. Only 1,339 businesses, which is about 15.5%, renewed their licences in time, while 7,297 firms exited the market. At the moment, 11,136 cannabis shops in Thailand continue their business operations. https://integro.asia/tighter-rules-for-cannabis-shop-owners-in-thailand-led-to/

Thailand to open more working sectors to foreign companies

Thailand is preparing a proposal to open additional sectors to foreign firms to attract investment and restore economic growth.

The Commerce Ministry has prepared a proposal for the cabinet to remove 10 business categories from the restricted list under the Foreign Business Act (FBA). If approved, foreign companies will not be required to obtain a Foreign Business License to operate in those sectors, significantly increasing the likelihood that foreign businesses will enter and operate in Thailand.

According to the Ministry’s Foreign Business Administration Division, some of the sectors may include telecommunications, software development, financial management, petroleum exploration and trading in agricultural derivatives. There are no details yet on when the reform will take effect, as it is still awaiting the cabinet’s review.

Additionally, the ministry may reduce the approval time for foreign business permits to 1 month, down from the current 60-day review period. https://integro.asia/thailand-to-open-more-working-sectors-to-foreign-companies/

SMEs in Singapore to get support in AI-related fields

Singapore will offer practical support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to help overcome operational challenges through artificial intelligence (AI), rather than traditional grant funding.

The support initiative was launched on Jan 22 and is titled “The AI Foundry for SMEs”. It will provide access to a $1 million fund for hardware, engineering support and training, backed by technology firm Lenovo in collaboration with the Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (ASME) and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).

Firms with AI pilot projects can apply to be selected for the program. It will support 10 flagship AI pilot projects with clear business workflows and measurable outcomes. These pilots are intended to serve as repeatable blueprints that other SMEs can later adapt, lowering the barrier to AI adoption across sectors.

This time, there is no fixed funding cap, and firms do not need to meet any size requirements to be eligible for the fund. Support will be provided based on business needs, with flexible timelines and occasional reviews. https://intracorp.com.sg/smes-in-singapore-to-get-support-in-ai-related-fields/

ISCA unveils five key points to strengthen accounting SMEs

The Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) has published a strategy paper outlining how Singapore’s small and medium-sized accounting practices (SMPs) can adapt and expand amidst increasing competition, talent shortages, and rapid technological change.
The paper highlights a sector that plays a vital role in supporting Singapore’s business ecosystem, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Of the 761 accounting firms in Singapore, 98% are SMPs with 100 or fewer employees, and about 70% are micro practices with 10 or fewer staff. https://intraconnect.biz/isca-unveils-five-key-points-to-strengthen-accounting-smes/
