In learning experience design, we always ask why people genuinely care enough to engage.
Looking back at one of our favourite YT channels, Kurzgesagt, we found one consistent answer: curiosity. Not the kind you are born with, but the kind that is triggered the moment you realise you know less than you thought you did.
That shift, from "I know this" to "wait, I don't", is what makes people lean in. And it is something we can design for.
Kurzgesagt has 3.6 billion views and no learning objectives. Here is what the science of curiosity tells us about designing learning experiences that people actually choose to engage with.
