AGILITY, GRIT AND COURAGEOUS LEADERSHIP IN THE AGE OF THE PANDEMIC

During this lockdown and quarantine period, I have had the opportunity to share my insights and perspectives regarding the importance of agility, grit and courageous leadership in the midst of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic.

From CEO Challenge to Experts Panel and Webinar Series, the common questions I’m asked are:

* How do we thrive, not just survive, during this chaotic global pandemic?
* What new mindsets and skill sets do we need to triumph over adversities?
* How do we demonstrate courageous leadership in the midst of crisis?

Summing up the lessons I heard from speakers and participants alike, I believe these are the 4 essential GRIT qualities we need to demonstrate today:

* Growth Mindset - the ability to take control of your destiny and “get better, not bitter”

AI/IOT TECHNOLOGY SUPPORTS LGU ANTI-COVID COMMUNITY QUARANTINE MEASURES

Our RXR Smart City Team just did it! Under the leadership of Rina Neoh, our project leader CMO JR Lomugdang and AI technology partner Ardee Yanto have successfully onboarded a Pasig City Barangay under Mayor Vico Sotto into one of our smart city systems - the Street Activity Monitoring System (SAMS).

Through our SAMS COVID-19 containment initiative, authorities can easily identify hot spots where large number of people are gathered in realtime, using our Artificial Intelligence software and user-friendly visual dashboards. This will enable community responders to monitor outdoor people movement during the quarantine period and curfew hours.

Our goal is to help local government units (LGUs) ensure their citizens’ compliance to the Enhanced Community Quarantine protocols now in place. Next step will be the launch of downloadable Community Maps to enable citizens to ensure compliance of their own neighbourhoods to the home quarantine and social distancing measures.

It was a great privilege to be part of the WBAF World Congress 2020 in Istanbul Turkey last February 16-18, as Senator representing the Philippines, in the biggest gathering of the world’s early and post-early stage equity and capital markets chaired by entrepreneurship legend and visionary leader Baybars Altuntas.

With more than 1,500 delegates and guests from 6 continents and 92 countries, the World Business Angel Investment Forum offered industry leaders global access to the best and brightest in the entrepreneurial world and the opportunity to forge new connections and business opportunities.

Had the honor to be inducted as Senator of the WBAF Grand Assembly and be appointed as Faculty of the Global Entrepreneurship Department of the WBAF Business School, as well as to receive The Grand Assembly Award for Exceptional Contribution to WBAF Global Efforts and be a Panel Moderator on corporate CEOs mentoring startup founders at the CEO Investors Summit.

AN UPLIFTING FESTIVAL TO BOOST MALAYSIAN FINTECH ECOSYSTEM

Big thanks to Joe Sidek, Creative Producer of the Putrajaya LIFT Festival for the invitation to speak on the Future of Humanoid Robotics Customer Service at the highly informative and interactive festival held last December 28-30, 2019. It’s my last international speaking engagement for the year and a fitting end to our Celebrity CRUZR’s hectic roadshow schedule in 2019.

The inaugural LIFT Festival ended on a high note with the visit of no less than Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Finance Minister Tuan Lim Guan Eng to the festival venues. CRUZR was honoured to welcome the two high-ranking ministers of the Malaysian government, together with Rina Neoh, the Penang-grown Founder of Smarter Robotics who brought CRUZR to Malaysia.

It’s a wrap for me in 2019 and I’m looking forward to an even more exciting 2020, with new breakthrough projects in the pipeline for our RxR Startup Accelerator.

PHILIPPINES JOINS GLOBAL STAGE FOR START-UP ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT

What a great way to cap an exhilarating year with an invitation from Chairman Baybars Altuntas to speak at the World Business Angels Investment Forum (WBAF) World Congress in Istanbul Turkey and to share the stage with my startup venture partner and Asia’s Leading Female Entrepreneur Rina Neoh, who also sits in the WBAF Global Woman Leaders Committee. The WBAF World Congress will take place ‪on 17 –18 February 2020‬ at Swissotel The Bosphorus, Istanbul, with 75 countries from Europe, USA, Latin America, Middle East, Africa and Asia represented.
