In an Office Tower, Safety Is a Team Effort.

When you work in a high-rise office building, fire safety isn't just about your unit. A fire in one office can trigger evacuations, disrupt business for hundreds of people, and cause smoke damage across multiple floors.

Modern offices still need standard fire-safety equipment for common fire risks. They should also consider whether their protection is suitable for lithium-ion battery fire risks.

COMBAT's 6L Fluorine-Free Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Extinguisher is tested on lithium-ion battery fires up to 600Wh under the NTA 8133:2021 test method, providing targeted protection for modern workspace risks.

Protect your floor. Protect your building.

Don’t Ignore the IT Cupboard.

Every office has a corner or cupboard full of "spare" equipment: old laptops, retired power banks, and backup batteries.

Lithium-ion batteries can still pose a fire risk even when they are not in active use, especially if they are stored in high-density stacks or in warm, unventilated spaces.

If you see a battery swelling or pushing against a device casing, stop using it. Do not charge it, puncture it, or press on it. Follow proper disposal guidance for damaged batteries.

COMBAT helps office teams prepare for lithium-ion battery fire risks in storage and equipment areas.

Shared Breakrooms, Shared Risks.

Staff breakrooms are often crowded with power strips. Phones, tablets, and personal fans charge right next to coffee machines, kettles, and microwaves.

High-power appliances, liquids, and multiple charging points in one area can increase the chance of overheating, cable damage, or accidental misuse.

Do a quick breakroom audit:
✅ Are power strips daisy-chained?
✅ Are chargers kept away from heat sources or liquids?
✅ Is there a clear path to the exit?

A tidy breakroom is not just about housekeeping. It is part of workplace fire safety.

Is Your Office Charging While You Sleep?

It is a common habit: leaving your laptop or power bank to charge at your desk so it’s ready for the next morning.

But when an office is empty, a battery failure can go unnoticed. Lithium-ion batteries can overheat, swell, smoke, or catch fire if they are faulty, damaged, exposed to heat, or charged with unsuitable equipment.

In a shared workspace, one device can put the entire office at risk.

COMBAT's 6L Fluorine-Free Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Extinguisher is purpose-designed for modern battery fire risks and tested on lithium-ion battery fires up to 600Wh under the NTA 8133:2021 test method.

Encourage safer charging habits and review whether your office is prepared: https://combatbrandfire.sg/products/fluorine-free-lithium-ion-battery-fire-extinguisher

WEEKLY FIRE SAFETY RECAP

Two major fires were reported in Singapore last Friday, 12 June.

📍 Tuas Industrial Warehouse Fire

In the early hours of Friday morning, SCDF was alerted to a fire at an industrial warehouse at 3 Gul Crescent.

The fire involved a warehouse about the size of a football field. SCDF deployed about 80 firefighters and 20 emergency vehicles, using multiple water jets, firefighting machines, and an aerial monitor.

The fire was extinguished at about 10am. No injuries were reported.

📍 Sengkang HDB Flat Fire

Later that afternoon, a fire broke out in the bedroom of a third-floor unit at Block 125 Rivervale Street.

SCDF extinguished the blaze with a water jet.

🏥 Six people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.
🏢 About 120 residents were evacuated as a precaution.

The causes of both fires were under investigation at the time of reporting.

The reminder for every workplace is simple:

Fire risks are not limited to one kind of building.

They can affect warehouses, offices, homes, shared workspaces, and the people around them.

For offices and workspaces, start with the basics:

✅ Keep escape routes clear.
✅ Avoid overloading power strips.
✅ Check charging areas before leaving for the day.
✅ Store spare laptops, power banks, and batteries properly.
✅ Make sure fire-safety equipment is accessible and suitable for your risks.

Preparedness is not about panic. It is about noticing risks early, keeping escape routes clear, and having suitable fire-safety equipment accessible.

Stay alert. Stay prepared.

Weekend Retail Charging Check.

Before the new week starts, take a few minutes to walk your retail floor.

Check:
✅ Counter phones and tablets
✅ Power banks at checkout
✅ Customer charging near seats
✅ Backroom batteries and chargers
✅ Power strips under display tables
✅ Clear escape routes

Small habits reduce risk before an emergency begins.

If lithium-ion batteries are part of your retail environment, your fire-safety review should include lithium-ion battery fire protection.

In a Mall, Fire Safety Is Shared.

In malls and retail complexes, one shop's incident can affect neighbouring units, common corridors, customers, and building operations.

That is why battery charging habits should be part of the conversation between tenants, facility teams, and business owners.

Look beyond the obvious risks:

✅ Staff devices behind counters
✅ Customer charging near seating areas
✅ Power banks at checkout
✅ Backroom batteries and delivery devices
✅ Equipment placed near exits or stock

Prepared retail spaces protect more than one unit.

Backroom Charging Needs a Second Look.

In some retail and F&B spaces, delivery devices, PMDs, or removable batteries may end up charging in back corridors, storerooms, or loading areas.

These areas can be out of sight, close to stock, or near escape routes. If a battery fails there, the problem may be noticed late.

Do a quick check:

✅ Are batteries charged away from exits?
✅ Are chargers and cables in good condition?
✅ Is charging supervised where possible?
✅ Is suitable fire protection nearby?

COMBAT's 6L Fluorine-Free Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Extinguisher helps retail teams prepare for modern battery fire risks.
