✨ Temporary Accommodation – Week 8 ✨

8 weeks. 5 beds. 4 countries. Countless check-ins/outs. A few lost tempers 🙈 and A LOT of coffee ☕️. (Honest: I bailed out of sleeping in the tent ⛺️ with nieces and nephews when they asked).

After 4 amazing years in Singapore 🇸🇬, I am now in the middle of relocating to France 🇫🇷. I am right now waiting for our things to arrive, while trying to keep routines alive, and to make sure the kids feel supported. My day is going through her 7th (!) school move ➡️💪

It’s messy, it’s exhausting, but it’s also full of love. ❤️ I keep my kids, my marriage and us at the forefront because as it is, to succeed as an expat family-> the family must thrive

We’ve done this before (5 times!), and our experience and my daily work with expats really does help. It makes the rollercoaster go less up and down. 🎢

To anyone moving, supporting someone in transition, or working in global mobility: Please know—that behind the scenes, families are doing their very best while navigating chaos, paperwork, emotions, and endless “new things.” 🌍✨ (When we seem unfair, it is because we are out of sync).

One more week to go for me and my family🤞—and hopefully my next post will feature a mountain of moving boxes 📦… unpacked!

Every move abroad starts with you. 👈

The moment you decide to say yes to a new job, a new country, a new life, everything begins to shift.

Moving abroad is so much more than just packing boxes and filling out forms. It is preparing your mind for the rollercoaster ahead: excitement, stress, transformation, homesickness, growth, goodbyes, and big beginnings. 🌍✨

That’s why we created the Ready, Set, Relocate Conversation Game. It is designed to help you reflect, connect, and prepare emotionally and practically for what is to come. Whether you’re moving solo or as a family, the journey starts within. You. 👈

The questions in the Ready, Set, Relocate Conversation Game is partly from my own expat journey. A journey filled with incredible moments, but also a fair share of mistakes, misunderstandings, and defo some hardcore arguments 🥵🥵 with my husband.
As I looked back, I realized that most of the frustrations came from not knowing what to expect; hence not being able to prepare personally, and aligning properly as a couple and family. So I wrote it all down -> the lessons we/I learned, and the questions we should have asked, and then we turned it into a game to help you when moving or living abroad. ♥️♥️

You’ve got this 💪 and we’ve got you.

Goodbye to yet another home. 📦➡️🚚

The boxes have been sealed, memories bubble-wrapped, and the container door has closed behind us.
THANK YOU for making this a fantastic and smooth experience for us!! Means the world 🌺🌺

After months of planning and decisions, I (we) have moved into our temporary accommodation at the 👌👌. This brings me one step closer to the next chapter in my expat life. This time I am going back to France 🇫🇷

This part of the relocation journey is always full of mixed feelings. There is the excitement for what’s ahead, but also an ache in all the goodbyes to the place and people that held my everyday life together; to gym buddies who became like family, and to the routines that gave structure to my life away from my family. ♥️

Moving abroad is never just about logistics, which is a common and understandable way of perceiving it. To succeed you need to have a thousand conversations, make countless decisions, and take a million small moments to reflect on what you are leaving, what is coming, and how much you’ve built and grown in the process.

You also need to rest 🫶🫶 to avoid moving fatigue and potential burnout (been there, done that -> not a nice place to be 🥹).

Now; I focus and cherish the last 10 days as an and also start to look very much forward to lavender, baguette and seasons 🍂 But most importantly-> I look forward to getting closer to my son ♥️♥️ and my entire Danish 🇩🇰 family. !!!!

So 🥂🥂 to other temperatures, new opportunities, and to new stories waiting to be lived.

Saying goodbye or “see you soon” ✈️ is important when we relocate 🙏

We did just that yesterday with my daughter 🫶🫶

For Third Culture Kids, those children who grow up between worlds, goodbyes are crucial. Saying goodbye marks the change coming in their lives and makes more space for what is coming. 🌺🌺

Without marking the change they will have what I call “invisible loose ends” that will make settling into a new country harder.

We must help our children say goodbye to their friends, teachers, neighbors, and favorite routines or places, as it gives them emotional clarity to move forward. It is FAR FROM always easy. Tears, words that does not come out the right way, and hugs that should have been longer…….

Point is that it matters ♥️♥️ so much - and also helps build on the resilience, reflection, and emotional diversity our TCK’s will carry for life 🌍💛

We don’t know what we don’t know, especially when stepping into the unfamiliar world of expatriation. ✈️

That’s exactly why we created the Ready-Set-Relocate Conversation Game: to bring clarity, alignment, and confidence to every phase of the expat journey.

♥️ Before the move
♥️ During life abroad
♥️ When it’s time to go home or move on

Thank you so much, Laura, for your kind words and for trusting our game to guide your family through expat life. Your message truly means the world to us. 🙏🙏

Helping expats navigate with success and feel more seen, heard, and prepared is essential to what we do. We want you to thrive, we want you to leverage on opportunities, and we want you to be able to one day look back at a rich international life. Whether it was for a longer or shorter period of your life.

Wishing you all a wonderful day 🤩🤩

As an entrepreneur, it is nothing but priceless to have people believing in you and giving you their time and expertise.

When I first came to Singapore, I reached out to Kenneth Kwek — a true guru in relocation, mobility, and expatriation. I asked him if I could get 45 minutes of his time. He agreed. I showed up armed to the teeth with questions and asked for his honest take on the potential success of the solutions I was developing:

• The Ready, Set, Relocate Conversation Game
• My Expat Profile
• My Expat Family Profile
• The Expat Video Academy

We’ve come a long way since then — and Kenneth has been a kind and consistent supporter 💪. Today, I’m incredibly proud and grateful that Kenneth and the amazing team at DSP Relocations are trusted partners of Expat Advising, delivering world-class relocation services across Asia.

Recently, they hosted a brilliant event for mobility professionals and included us as a sponsor, speaker, and panellist. An outstanding opportunity to get our message of a human-centric approach to expatriation and relocation across.

This is what a true partnership looks like — rooted in mutual support, shared purpose, and a vision to push the industry forward. We’re thankful not only for their belief in us, but also for the opportunity to support their work in return — and we’re excited to keep growing together.

Thank you, DSP Relocations! 🙏

I am guilty at selling the expat life as a sunny and “vacation-ish” everyday life posting these pics. 📸

Fact of life as an expat is though that we do get to see and explore a lot. Also sunny drop dead gorgeous places -> like Bintan, Indonesia 🇮🇩 which is where these pictures are taken.

Living as an expat offers so much and it is just as important to focus on the privilege of exploring as it is to focus on the not so charming side of expat life.

Perhaps you’ve noticed it’s been quiet on the account the last week and this is why. I’ve spent Easter 🐣 with my family. My family that I have not seen since August 2024 - which is then the downside of living so far away.

What we have as a family because of me living as an expat is fantastic memories from places around the world where we would have definitely not gone had we all lived in Denmark 🇩🇰.

I do feel very grateful for this and indeed for having parents and siblings who are able and willing to come and visit us. ♥️♥️.

May 14, 2014. This was my daughter. We were airport-bound with a stroller, suitcases, and hearts full of hope.

She was just 2, waving goodbye to what was familiar and stepping into the unknown before she could even pronounce “farvel” (goodbye) properly.

Today, she’s 13. She’s lived in 4 countries, attended 6 schools, speaks 3 languages, and carries pieces of every place she’s called home. 🌍💫

She’s what we call a Third Culture Kid (TCK. She is growing up between cultures, and is shaped by the beauty and ache of feeling belonging everywhere and nowhere. All at once. Most of the time it has been easy for her, but in particular the relocation when she was 10 was challenging.

Every child- regardless of how they grow up - faces challenges. That’s good to remember when we are raising children abroad.

The way we live has given Asta a rare kind of resilience, empathy, and world perspective. When she meets new people she sees a human being before anything else.

So; to my brave girl: You’ve navigated every relocation with an open mind and I couldn’t be prouder. ♥️✈️

There’s no greater reward 💫 than receiving a testimonial from our fellow expats!!

A big thank you 🙏 to Giulia Ceccacci and Marco Milanesi for sharing your experience with the Ready, Set, Relocate - Conversation Game with us. And can we just take a moment to also mention how wonderful you look together 🎯

Thriving as an expat takes more than just desire and will. It requires the right resources, knowledge, and the opportunity to openly discuss and align expectations.

Our goal with the conversation game is just that.

And it is working 👊

The idea that expats just ‘wing it’ during relocation 🌐 is still a common misconception.

But. There is 🛑N.O.T.H.I.N.G🛑easy about moving from one country to another.

Practical - emotional - financial. They are all heavily influenced.

And that’s exactly why Expat Advising exists. To turn all of that into smooth sailing.

We’re preparing expats for success every day, and we’re just getting started.
