Q: Why the change to a start-up so late in your career?

"When I applied to the job, the size of the company was never in my consideration. The most important point to me is whether the task is interesting and challenging, and if I can fit into the position and contribute to the company. From my short time here so far, it has been a fruitful and rewarding journey."

Macalino's unique name fits his unique personality extremely well. His optimism and cheeriness in the office is infectious, especially during crunch time. He also has an unexpectedly wide range of skills, fulfilling many tasks for the company outside of his job scope.

"Working in a start-up is more exciting than it sounds. New ideas can be quickly tried and tested in a quick paced environment. When everyone communicates and acts decisively on it, ideas come into fruition rapidly. Our Chief Technology Officer, Karthik Thothathri defended his doctoral thesis yesterday at Nanyang Technological University Singapore. On behalf of the team, we would like to congratulate him on his accomplishment and recognise the efforts he has put towards finishing his education while working at WaveScan concurrently.

"In early 2019, Dr. Karthik made a significant sacrifice to join WaveScan full-time, and has built the company with me from grounds-up. It took him a lot of courage & mental rigour to convert his Ph.D. scholarship to part-time, juggle the commitments of a full-time CTO at WaveScan, and his personal life. This milestone is well-timed as we have also recently launched the first commercial version of the WaveScan scanner, which is already in client's hands through the sales cycle. Meet Mateusz!

Mat recently joined us all the way from Poland! His energy, quick wit, and variety of sock patterns has brought a boost to the whole team.

Outside of work, Mat is a windsurfing instructor, and enjoys playing the guitar and making music. Seems like his experience with riding and making (sea and sound) waves makes him the perfect fit!

Q: Why did you choose to work in Singapore and at WaveScan?

"There comes a time to wave goodbye to the comfort of your mother's embrace and to pave your way towards independence. WaveScan offered an interesting job scope in a dynamic environment and a lot of learning opportunities and initiatives to be taken. Nice weather too!"

Why did you join WaveScan?
"I've always wanted to work at a start-up to experience its pace and tackle a wide range of problems. The team here is extremely driven and determined to achieve the company's vision together."
