Russia clears fuel pipeline construction in Congo


Russia has tentatively agreed to the construction of a fuel pipeline in the Republic of the Congo, according to a government decree published recently. The pipeline will link the western port of Pointe-Noire to the capital Brazzaville. Moscow said a joint venture to construct the pipeline would be set up with Russia controlling 90% of the entity. The technical and economic issues are set to be defined in a concession agreement. Russia pledged to provide funds, equipment and personnel for the construction of the pipeline as well as fuel to fill it if and when necessary. The Republic of the Congo is expected to agree to various tax relief measures.

Achimwene. Malawi launches e-justice programme to modernise judicial system


Malawi has launched an e-justice programme to modernise the country's judicial system by enhancing digital access to judicial services. Launched during the e-Justice National Conference held in the capital of Lilongwe recently, the programme will allow people, including those outside Malawi, to access judicial services in Malawian courts through digital platforms. Malawian Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo said the programme, as part of the government's commitment to digital transformation in the country, will enhance court proceedings and ensure the timely delivery of justice.

Ghana. What really happened to the promised economic recovery strategies? World Bank to provide USD300-million to Ghana to strengthen macroeconomic stability and support resilient economic growth


The World Bank has approved a USD300-million Development Policy Operation for Ghana. The First Resilient Recovery Development Policy Financing is a critical contribution by the bank’s International Development Association to help Ghana’s economic recovery and support the country’s resilient and inclusive growth. “The Government of Ghana remains committed to restoring macroeconomic stability and to the implementation of lasting reforms to set the economy on a path of strong long-term sustainable growth and transformation. The disbursement of this USD300-million Development Policy Financing, the first in a series of three, will play a vital role in easing Ghana’s fiscal constraints, sustaining the momentum of economic recovery while protecting the poor and vulnerable,” said Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance for Ghana. The approval of this financing package follows a recent agreement in principle by the Official Creditors’ Committee under the Group of 20 Common Framework on the key parameters of the proposed debt restructuring for Ghana.
