There is a big elephant in the room in light of ongoing AI disruptions. I’m sharing a popular story posted by Han Kok Kwang, a LinkedIn influencer. Here is his metaphor:
Three people touched an elephant in the dark.
One grabbed the trunk. “It’s a snake.”
(Employers: “Singaporeans are unemployable.”)
Another held the leg. “It’s a tree.”
(Government: “Unemployment is 1.9%. Jobs are available.”)
The third pulled the tail. “It’s a rope.”
(Workers: “I’ve sent 500 applications. Nothing.”)
Each described their piece of truth. None saw the whole animal.
Singapore built a workforce for a middle class that is disappearing. For 30 years, the script worked: get credentials, get a $4K–$8K role, climb the ladder, and retire safely. However, this machine is breaking.
Everyone is right. Everyone is struggling.
Because the system they are navigating is dead.
You are NOT unemployable. You were built for a system that has ended — one that rewarded credentials over capability. That market is gone.
Delaying AI upskilling is no longer an option — it is a strategic risk. Organisations that adapt the fastest, equipping their workforce with AI fluency and digital agility, will lead the next wave. Employees who understand AI, know how to leverage it, and can combine human judgement with machine speed will become the most sought-after talent.
We urge you to take pre-emptive action: invest in AI training for yourself and your colleagues/employees now — not as a pilot or experiment, but as a core part of your talent strategy. Build internal capability today to secure competitiveness tomorrow.
