Employment & Employability for Alternative Quality Workforce
– Employment Pathway for Mature Workers
Singaporeans are living longer than they have ever lived before. Many are staying fit, continue to be able to remain economically active and can stay longer in the workforce. In addition, the proportion of workers aged 50 and above will rise significantly, making it imperative for employers to hire and retain more mature employees.
For Mature Workers
There are many reasons to consider continuing or returning to work after retirement. Whether your decision to remain or re-enter the workforce is financial or simply a lifestyle choice, there are several important factors to examine. If you are returning to a previous role, career transition, or searching for a new job, it can be beneficial to consider how much you want to work, how ready are you to work, the type of job you would like to do and any preparation you may need.
For Employers
Business owners and companies are facing the challenge to remain competitive in their manpower resource. The alternative quality workforce has great potential to be tapped on. Having a diverse and all-rounded environment in the workplace allows employees to thrive and grow. The cross-pollination of ideas across generations is a great platform to learn from one another, bringing better and refreshing processes to the workplace.
For Enterprise Promotion Centres (EPC)
The key thrust of EPC is to connect mature workers and employers seeking employment – employability and future ready workforce solutions. In a two-part series, EPC organised interactive conversations with mature workers to prepare themselves to be part of this alternative quality workforce, and with companies (Business Owners, Management, Human Resources and Line Manage/Supervisors) to prepare them in hiring and managing mature workers.
In the two-part In-Conversations led by Mr Henry Quake, held on 25 November and 22 December 2022, EPC Chairman EPC shared tips with the mature workers on how to develop a personal marketable identity, be adaptable, adopt change and work transformation to level up to be future-ready in a new economy. It also highlighted the benefits of having mature workers to the employers and how they could provide a conducive working environment to boost productivity.
