BEFORE THE FIRST HARVEST: Building an Aeroponics Venture in Rwanda

What does it really take to build an agritech venture - before you grow your first crop?

At the 7th Urban Agri World Summit 2026, Kenny Rubaduka, Founder of Upgrow Rwanda, will share the real journey of building an aeroponic vertical farming venture in Kigali.

His session, “Before the First Harvest: Building an Aeroponics Venture in Rwanda,” goes beyond technology and crops to explore the foundations that entrepreneurs need to build before the first seed is planted.

Drawing on his experience developing Upgrow Rwanda, Kenny will share practical lessons on:
• Building government alignment and institutional support
• Validating real buyer demand before production begins
• Securing buyer commitments - even before having a product sample
• Building a committed team around an early-stage venture
• Designing pilots that allow start-ups to test, learn and fail cheaply
• Why credibility can be one of an agritech start-up's most valuable assets

A particularly fascinating part of the story? A self-funded start-up that secured engagement with Rwanda's agricultural ecosystem and obtained 12 buyer letters of intent before launching production.

Because sometimes the most important work in agriculture happens before the first harvest.

This is a practical session for agripreneurs, start-ups, investors, financiers, policymakers and anyone interested in building Africa's next generation of agricultural ventures.

The momentum behind West & Central Africa's mining sector has never been stronger.

With record gold prices reshaping investment decisions, new mining projects moving into construction across Côte d'Ivoire and Mali, and countries such as Guinea accelerating gold development alongside their established bauxite industries, the region is entering an exciting new phase of growth. Investors are increasingly looking beyond resources alone, with infrastructure, local partnerships and long-term value creation becoming critical factors in project success.

Against this backdrop, we're pleased to announce the new dates for the 12th Summit & Expo:
21–22 April 2027
Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra
,

The additional runway allows us to curate an even stronger programme, attract more senior decision-makers and create greater value for our exhibitors, sponsors and delegates as the industry enters what promises to be a defining period for mining in West & Central Africa.

WaCA Mining Summit & Expo has always been about more than discussing mining trends - it's about connecting the people who are shaping the future of mining across the region.

We look forward to welcoming , , , investors, policymakers and technology innovators to Accra on 21–22 April 2027 for two days of meaningful business connections and practical conversations that matter.
The countdown starts now.

What if urban waste could become an urban business opportunity?
Don’t Just Grow Food... Grow Urban Economies.

At the 7th Urban Agri World Summit 2026, we’re excited to feature Daniel Motshwane of Afrique Rising Trading and his thought-provoking DMushLove Revolution - a circular mushroom agribusiness model turning urban waste into food, income and enterprise.

Daniel will explore how we can move beyond the traditional idea of urban agriculture as simply growing food and instead build decentralised, commercially viable urban agribusinesses.
- From Urban Consumers to Urban Producers
- From Biomass to Business
- Making Urban Agribusiness Investable
- Creating Opportunities for Women & Youth as Agribusiness Owners
- Building Decentralised Urban Agribusiness Models

The bigger challenge is one we believe Africa needs to confront:
“Africa does need more agricultural projects, but more urban agricultural businesses.”

This is the kind of practical, entrepreneurial thinking we want to bring to UAW 2026 - moving the conversation from food production alone to job creation, enterprise development, circular economies and wealth creation.

Research that began in sugarcane. Solutions that can benefit agriculture across Africa.

We're delighted to announce the South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI) Research Showcase at the 7th World Summit 2026.
From Research to Resilience: Transferable Technologies from Sugarcane Research for Sustainable and

As climate pressures, pest threats and resource constraints reshape agriculture, one question matters more than ever: How can proven research be transferred across farming systems to deliver practical impact?

This special showcase will demonstrate how innovations developed through South Africa's sugarcane research ecosystem can create value far beyond sugarcane—supporting , and -urban agriculture, farming and other sustainable production systems.

The session brings together researchers, an extension specialist and a commercial sugarcane grower to explore how scientific innovation can become practical, scalable solutions for climate-resilient and resource-efficient agriculture.
This is exactly the kind of cross-sector knowledge exchange that will help accelerate agricultural innovation across Africa.

Chair & Facilitator: Dr. Lawrence Malinga (Pr Sci Nat) Programme Manager – Crop Protection & Senior Research Entomologist, South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI)

Recent developments in ’s mining sector—from the Damang transition to continued regulatory strengthening—are sending a clear signal: is entering a new phase of mining growth defined by local participation, stronger governance, and long-term value creation.

Across the region, we are seeing:
* Increased focus on regulatory clarity and compliance
* Greater emphasis on local capacity and ownership
* Continued investment interest in gold, bauxite, lithium, and critical minerals
* A push toward sustainable and responsible mining practices

Ghana continues to set the pace, but similar momentum is building across Côte d’Ivoire, Senegal, Mali, and the wider West & Central African corridor.
The opportunity is clear—but so are the challenges:
➡️ How do we unlock investment while managing risk?
➡️ How do regulatory frameworks keep pace with industry needs?
➡️ How do operators, investors, and governments align for sustainable growth?

These are exactly the conversations that will take centre stage at the upcoming 12th West & Central Africa Mining Summit & Expo ( 2026) in Accra on 6-7 October.

WaCA Mining is designed as a strategic and commercial platform—bringing together:
* Mining companies and project developers
* Investors and financial institutions
* Government and regulatory authorities
* Technology and solution providers

A special acknowledgment to the continued efforts and leadership of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources - Ghana, Minerals Commission of Ghana, Ghana Tourism Authority as well as industry stakeholders such as Richard Kofi Afenu Esq. and others who are actively contributing to the advancement of Ghana’s mining sector.
