Mr. Justice Akenhead summed it up rather well recently by stating:

“In these delay cases, it is necessary to show that the claiming party was actually delayed by the factors of which it complains;….”

“If the real cause of the delay is, say, overwork or disorganisation within the claimant, the fact that there have been variations… Or late issue of materials is simply coincidental.”

Deltek's recent 8.8 release of Acumen 360 includes several great additions on the risk module side.

Parallel or serial mapping is now available, enabling discrete risks to be impacted on the same activity. However, the practical impact isn't always the combined total of all the applied risks – which is where parallel mapping comes in.

To illustrate, if two risk events, of 15 and 10 days respectively, affect an activity, the total impact may appear as 25 days, but with parallel mapping, the nett impact will be 15 days – i.e., the longest risk.
