When the next generation took over the family business, REDUX SG (formerly Seah Yong Heng) began looking beyond its traditional electronics recycling operations towards a more sustainable future. One opportunity stood out: solar panel recycling.

But getting there required expertise and technology the company did not have in-house. Dr. Tina Zhu, Senior Manager, Advisory & Technology at IPI Singapore, helped REDUX identify the right technology partner and facilitate the collaboration.

Gary Seah, Managing Director of REDUX, admits he was sceptical at first. But as IPI stayed involved, his perspective changed: "I can say that they put in more than 200% of what they should do."

A family legacy doesn't have to stay unchanged. Sometimes, the next chapter starts by seeing new possibilities and building something bigger.

Singapore sustainability start-up Thriving Weeds is tackling this challenge with ๐€๐ฎ๐๐ข๐ญ๐„๐ฒ๐ž+, an AI and IoT-enabled platform that provides real-time waste profiling, contamination detection, and analytics.

The collaboration helped Thriving Weeds build real-world evidence and market credibility, while refining its solution and strengthening its readiness for wider commercial adoption.

Years in the high-pressure semiconductor industry gave Xu Jinsong, Founder and CEO of Innowave Tech, first-hand experience of the complex challenges manufacturers face every day. That experience eventually became the starting point for Innowave Tech, which uses AI-powered solutions to help manufacturers solve problems with greater speed, precision, and autonomy.

But building the technology was only part of the journey. The next challenge was turning technical capability into a focused, scalable business.

With support from IPI Singapore, including Jonathan Hong, Manager, Advisory & Technology, Innowave Tech tapped into innovation advisory and open innovation, connecting with advisors Chok Yean Hung and Dr Maren Celine Schweizer for expertise spanning semiconductor operations and business growth. This helped the company sharpen its product roadmap, strengthen its business strategy and prepare for expansion beyond Singapore.

Along the way, Jinsong's role evolved too - from operator to business leader.

This is #2 of Icons of Innovation, spotlighting the people and companies behind innovation and growth. โ–ถ๏ธ Watch Innowave Tech's story.

"Technology can move very fast, but usually what's critical is trust."

For Soh Chong Kian, Founder & CEO of PilotPulse.Ai , building the technology was only part of the challenge. In the company's first six months, there were no sales. The bigger hurdle was finding early adopters willing to understand what they were building and give it a chance.

Those introductions helped PilotPulse connect with companies looking for applied AI solutions, understand real business needs and explore where its autonomous AI assistants could make a meaningful difference.

For Chong Kian, the journey comes back to what it started with: trust. Trust in the technology, trust between partners, and trust built over time.
