: Truth the Elephant in the Room & Sandy Hook Judgement

Once upon a time, 3 blind men were tasked to describe an elephant. Each blind man touched a different part of the elephant and tried to share their understanding of the elephant. Each account was true, but each was at best a partial representation of reality. At worst inaccurate.
As children we were all taught about there being a single truth. But recent times have taught truth is a matter of perspective, thus there are many versions of truth, and each is layered by perspective. For as academia would tell truth is a concept shaped only through human understanding.
But does this justify Alex Jones, a right-wing conspiracy theorist, to label the shooting of 20 children in Newton Connecticut “a giant hoax,”? Does it justify him accusing anti-Second Amendment forces of having staged the massacre of children and its aftermath with “crisis actors.” Apparently not! In a landmark judgment, Alex Jones has been ordered to Pay $4.1 Million to Sandy Hook Parents.
So, today’s judgment has upheld the perspective long argued by theorists that for a concept to be true it needs to relate to the world and describe the world accurately i.e. have a content-to-world or word-to-world relation. And promoting perspectives that do not uphold this correspondence for personal gain cannot be allowed!

Inflation is the latest crisis to hit our world that has been plagued by pandemic for more than 2 year! And the impact on consumer confidence can be felt across all markets.
As prices reach record highs, so do the concerns about the cost of daily lives. In this inflationary environment, consumers are often left with no option but to revaluate buying decisions. And often trading down, reducing consumption, or indeed opting out.
Given the rising input costs and costs of production, brands, in turn, are responding by :
1) Reducing pack sizes and product volumes. While intuitive the question is that will this be risky in the log run and will erode trust?
2) Others are passing the price increases to their customer. However, is this wise given rising price sensitivities as disposable incomes shrink
3) Some brands are revisiting promotions and offers. But for brands that are inextricably bought for the promotional offers is this an appropriate strategy?

Market Research isn't something that is always done on paper and once the reports are ready, the case is closed. MR, for all practical purposes, is a process of learning, unlearning, and relearning, as can be seen from the case of Wrigleys Chewing Gum. The brand used to sell Sugar. However, they found that the sugar sales had started going down. The idea was to start giving Chewing Gum as a freebie- an incentive to boost sales. Gradually, the demand for Chewing Gum kept increasing, so much that the brand became a Chewing Gum brand as we know it today!
Similarly, MR involves not only learning by summarizing data; but also learning from the most unexpected corners and from outliers. One can never expect what marvel would be unraveled. The only thing necessary is an honest effort. At Ideal Insights- we believe in that!
