USE CONDEMNS VIOLENCE AGAINST SECURITY OFFICERS
The Union of Security Employees (USE) strongly condemns the violent incident on 4 May at Cross Street, where a security officer was allegedly assaulted while responding to a disturbance outside a mall.
Based on media reports, the individual involved had earlier assaulted a female barista and was restrained by members of the public before being handed over to security. Despite this, the man allegedly attacked a security officer shortly after. Both the barista and the injured security officer were taken to hospital for treatment. Police investigations are ongoing.
Violence against security officers is completely unacceptable. Officers carry out their lawful duties to maintain safety and order, and any form of abuse towards them must not be tolerated.
USE stands firmly with the injured officer and also commends Premier Security Co‑Operative Ltd for their swift response, care and concern shown to their officer, and for standing together with USE against violence and abuse against security officers. Such actions reflect the importance of strong employer‑union partnership in protecting frontline workers.
USE continues to call for:
- Zero tolerance for violence or abuse against security officers
- Swift and firm action whenever such incidents occur
- Respect and accountability from all who interact with frontline security officers
Violence has no place in our workplaces or public spaces.
