Consistent pain anywhere for a prolonged period? Better get it checked! Our resident ENT expert Dr KH Lim Ear Nose Throat Clinic Singapore shares how he cured a patient suffering from throat pain for 1.5months. We're glad she's better now!

Saw a lady with throat pain for 1.5 months. No fever, sore throat, flu like symptoms, difficult swallowing or hoarseness. ENT examinations was normal. A painful thyroid swelling was felt. Ultrasound of the thyroid showed patchy granulat thyroid suggestive of active thyroiditis. Her thyroid hormones and antibodies were normal.

She had thyroiditis ie inflammation of the thyroid gland likely from a viral infection. She recovered after a week of medicine.

Thyroiditis is uncommon cause of anterior neck pain. It is mostly due to some autoimmune diseases. Sometimes from a viral or bacterial infection, drug or radiation induced.

It is fortunate that this lady's thyroiditis was from a viral infection. She recovered fully without major consequence. 😀
