The GRACE Mission – Farming with a passion for people and a penchant for planting

𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐅𝐀𝐑𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐆
Care Farming (also known as Social Farming) has over the years, gained global importance. Today, a sizeable number of farms have extended their mission beyond agriculture. Such extensions often encompass fostering restorative communities to help promote healing, mental health, social, and even provide education to marginalized persons and people groups.

In Europe, countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, and Norway now formally recognize Care Farming as a medically and socially acceptable therapeutic method and part of the national healthcare and social systems. Consequently, Care Farms in these countries become an integral part of society, receiving the support of government, corporates, and individuals.

Recent studies further reveal that Care Farms result in positive outcomes for society, given the restorative and socially inclusive nature of their activities which involve agriculture. Furthermore, Care Farms have been shown to activate and empower hidden people groups that would otherwise remain untapped by the society. Such positive results have reportedly helped empowered and restored persons with autism or those facing depression, dementia, and anxiety, among other conditions.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐄 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
Armed with a passion to serve and vision to be a farm in the city, Grace Mission Agri (GMA) has recently established a rooftop farm in the Ang Mo Kio (AMK) area to better serve both industry and the community.

Established as a social enterprise, GMA is a care farm having a two-fold mission:
to produce fresh vegetables that is nutritious, flavorful and of good quality for Singapore
to equip young persons with autism with employable skills through restorative therapy and vocational training at GMA’s Care Farm

As an urban farm in the city, GMA provides fresh (pesticide-free) local leafy greens from its rooftop farm. These leafy greens may be Kai Lan (芥兰); Cai Xin (菜心), Spinach (苋菜), Kang Kong (空心菜) and Xiao Bai Cai (小白菜) to name a few.

As a care farm, GMA provides therapeutic services consisting of a structured nature restorative program that helps to improve mental and physical wellbeing of young people with autism which gain skills through learning about horticulture while working with agricultural systems.

𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐓𝐎 𝐅𝐀𝐑𝐌?
We have just set foot into Ang Mo Kio and welcome volunteers, adoption partners, donors, prayers, and well-wishers to join us on this journey of green and goodness for the community.
