Indeed, it takes hard work and time to perfect your skills. It does hours and hours of recce, learning from all available sources, and understanding the context and also limitations of your equipment.
Professional photography is a trade that requires time and effort to be put in to master. The skillsets are the same regardless of genres of photography. And yes, clients are paying for the experience of the photographers.
What clients are paying are, to know:
1. when to press the shutter,
2. where to find your shots,
3. what you need for your images,
4. who to find to get your images and
5. how to produce what you want.
