Bridging Heritage and Innovation at London Craft Week 2026 πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡¬πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

We're proud to have two of our past collaborative projects featured in the Future Craft showcase at London Craft Week, presented by the National Heritage Board. Both works reflect something we believe deeply, that tradition doesn't survive by standing still.

Harmony Sphere Lamp is a collaboration with Master Jimm Wong Pui Fatt, merging decades of Foochow lantern-making mastery with 3D printing technology. Rooted in a craft tradition from Fujian province, the work explores how precision and scale can be achieved through technology without losing the handcrafted soul that makes these lanterns meaningful.

The second project, Silver Pride Lion Troupe reimagines active ageing through heritage. Rooted in the belief that culture can energise as much as it preserves, lion dance became our pilot. Transformed from a spectacle to watch into a living craft practice taken up and owned by seniors themselves. A new chapter for an old tradition.

Both projects are part of our ongoing work developing innovation frameworks for heritage exploring how cultural practices and communities can evolve without losing what makes them irreplaceable.

From desert wind to refined form. This is Kohler Xuke.

The rippling texture of wind-eroded sand dunes isn't decoration. It's the entire design language. Translated into a graceful seamless form: soft matte exterior, high-gloss interior, stone drain cover that completes the object as one cohesive whole.

Craft and natural philosophy, resolved in a single form.

Seamless. Curved. Considered.

The Xuke bathtub is built around a graceful oval form with seamless construction and a minimalist modern aesthetic, designed to disappear into a space while commanding it entirely.

Something is taking shape.

Drawing inspiration from the shifting silhouettes of sand dunes. Every ripple and contour has inspired this design language.

Try this: Sit on the edge of your chair and let your feet dangle for one minute.
.. Uncomfortable? Hard to focus? This is the reality for many children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

We recently worked with AWWA to explore design interventions for this issue, and it taught us more than we expected.

Let’s start with a simple exercise: Sit on the edge of your chair and let your feet dangle, tiptoeing just slightly. Stay in that positions…

🌏 The most valuable thing a project can leave behind is not an outcome. It is a framework others can build on.

What began with the Silver Pride Lion Troupe has grown into something we believe is genuinely transferable, across cultural assets, communities, and design disciplines. Heritage as a design tool. Design as civic practice. People activation as pedagogy. A scalable blueprint for health-based design that puts culture at the centre, not the margins.

We had the privilege of bringing this work to the 1st International Workshop on Design Education Research & Practice, led by Nadya Shaznay Patel, EdD and Karin Aue, for the forthcoming publication "Reframing Design Education: Futures, Practices & Pedagogies."

We are glad to be sharing our studio's thinking alongside academics and designers who are equally committed to pushing the boundaries of what design education can be and who it can serve.

Heritage isn't the backdrop. It's the foundation.

Cultural immersion can reshape the way people engage with learning, particularly for older adults. When training is anchored in lived tradition rather than health messaging alone, it shifts participation from obligation to genuine motivation.

From clan-led immersion as scaffolding, to co-designing with users, to prototyping with cultural integrity in mind, this is what it looks like to design with heritage, not around it.

🦁 Our award-winning work on the Silver Pride Lion Troupe is one of the most meaningful projects our studio has ever taken on. And it taught us far more than we anticipated.

The pilot programme was simple in intention: keep seniors active and socially connected through a reimagined lion dance, tapping on heritage as a vehicle for movement, community, and belonging.

What we didn't anticipate was how much it would teach us about design itself.Constraints became curriculum. Reduced mobility, declining dexterity, cultural sensitivity, each one shaped a pedagogy around health design that is both culturally authentic and genuinely activating. Design around limitation, don't ignore it.

Over the past few months we've been unpacking everything we learnt, translating that into a body of shareable design pedagogy. For health-based design. For design educators. For anyone rethinking what active ageing looks like when culture leads.

The Kohler Ruiyi

We started with the oriental round fan. Balance, rhythm, restraint. That singular motif became our design language across every piece in this collection.

As look closer at the tap, the wall handle, the basin faucet you’ll find the same restrained silhouettes. The same subtle ridges catching light and shadow. The fan-bone rhythm concealed within each edge, waiting to be discovered.
