Should I do MORE in the remaining months of 2026?
It's natural, isn't it? We are in the month of May and suddenly our default setting shifts to MORE: do more, deliver more, have more, become more.
We're hearing it everywhere. From connections feeling the pull of a bigger opportunity, to people in our work who are weighing up whether to take on more scope, more responsibility, more of everything.
The opportunity can look compelling: bigger contribution, more visibility, more meaning and fulfilment.
And then your body reminds you of the last time you said yes to MORE. Less sleep, more stress, and a version of yourself you didn't particularly like.
So "Should I do MORE?" is often the wrong first question.
A better one: "What will MORE require of me, and is that worth it in this season?"
A client of ours, a manufacturing plant head, said yes to a newly formed global committee reviewing enterprise-wide safety policies: high-impact, high-visibility. Two months later, late-night calls across time zones were routine, and he'd nod off on the living room sofa after work and wake up there the next morning.
That's the hidden invoice for MORE. It's paid in energy.
Think of the MORE you're considering, at work or in life, and try this 60-second check.
Answer Yes or No.
- Does this MORE support my top 1 to 2 priorities right now?
- Can my energy and recovery sustain this MORE for 6 to 12 months?
- Do I want this MORE for the substance of it (not guilt, optics, or approval)?
- Can I protect my non-negotiables while doing MORE (sleep, health, family, faith, downtime)?
- Is the practical load realistic (time, logistics, admin), not just the idea?
- Do I have real support when pressure hits (at home, at work, in my circle)?
- Are the trade-offs clear and acceptable (do I know what I'm saying no to)?
- Is the upside worth the added complexity and risk in this season?
Count your NOs:
0 to 1 NO: go for MORE, with 1 to 2 clear boundaries.
2 to 3 NOs: pause. Redesign the conditions first.
More than 3 NOs: this might not be your season for MORE. And that's a complete answer.
