In a rapidly transforming business world, we can expect to see more consulting divisions spinning off from traditional accounting practices.

The accounting firm is exploring a plan to split its global audit and consulting practices, following an effort by fellow Big Four firm Ernst & Young to potentially spin off its consulting arm, according to people familiar with the matter.

[The Business Times] Singapore could potentially include nuclear in energy supply mix: report

The Energy 2050 Committee report focused on a scenario-based approach for Singapore to steer the energy sector in 2050, depending on the pace of how low-carbon energy technologies such as hydrogen, new geothermal and nuclear technologies advance and are deployed globally, which it deemed "critical uncertainties".

NUCLEAR energy may not be completely off the table as Singapore charts its path to decarbonise the power sector to net-zero emissions by 2050. Read more at The Business Times.

[The Business Times] Singapore economy likely to grow in 2022 but don't rule out recession, stagflation: Lawrence Wong

"It may well be that we can still continue to grow, which is still our assumption today... But there is also the likelihood that things may escalate or that this could be a prolonged war, in which case, there will certainly be an impact on supply chains, on inflation and on global growth, all of which will then impact Singapore," he said.

SINGAPORE'S baseline assumption is that its economy is still able to grow this year, but adverse situations such as a recession or stagflation cannot be ruled out, owing to uncertainties arising from the deepening crisis in Ukraine, said Finance Minister Lawrence Wong on Tuesday (Mar 22). Impact of Russia-Ukraine tension on Asean economies

The region's economic recovery was set to firm up in 2022, said Fitch Ratings in a report, but rising commodity prices as a result of the conflict are a growing risk. This is despite the relatively small trade and investment linkages between Russia and Asean.

WHILE most of Asean does not have direct exposure to Russia, markets in the region are likely to face headwinds from supply shocks on key manufacturing and agricultural imports, as well as higher food and energy prices. Read more at The Business Times.

SINGAPORE on Net-Zero commitments:
A recent study by Engie Impact, a sustainability solutions company, found 90 per cent of companies in the Asia-Pacific lack confidence that their business units and individuals are incentivised to decarbonise. Half of these companies also say they do not have mechanisms to integrate carbon in investment and business decisions.

WHILE net-zero commitments hold a solid spot on many corporate board and C-suite agendas today, many companies in Singapore and Asia are still trying to figure out what net zero entails. Read more at The Business Times.
