Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day, a dedicated day to learn, think, and talk about digital accessibility and inclusion.

In Singapore, we have much to be proud of. Our public sector sets a high bar. But the private sector tells a different story.

SMU's Digital Inclusion Survey 2025 found that more than half of persons with disabilities rated their workplaces just 50% on tech accessibility - the lowest-scoring dimension of inclusion. The wider public agreed: 6 in 10 identified digital accessibility as the weakest link.

In the words of Prof Ching, who led the study: "Accessibility, especially digital, is still the critical bottleneck."

Bottlenecks, though, are solvable problems.

Accessibility isn't a compliance checkbox. It's a design standard, a business imperative, and above all - a human responsibility.

This GAAD, let's close the gap between what we know and what we build. What's one step your organisation can take today?

What does it actually take to make digital products accessible - and why does it matter?

On May 20, we're sitting down with four people who each have a unique stake in this question.

Shalom Lim - Artist, advocate, and co-founder of Rebirth Ensemble, living with muscular dystrophy

Amanda Yip - Accessible fine arts practitioner and co-founder of Rebirth Ensemble, who has lived with vision impairment since birth

Tan Keng Hwee - Software engineer at GovTech, with hands-on experience tackling real accessibility challenges alongside people with disabilities

Fidelis Oruche - Head of Capital Markets and Digital Assets at HSBC, where the mission is to become the world's most digitally accessible bank

Together, they'll be making the case that designing for accessibility doesn't just include more people - it makes your digital products better for everyone.

May 20, 7–9PM | 10 Square, 10-01 Orchard Central
