WAVES' first project in 2020 was a second collaboration with ZooLogic Training & Consultancy. WAVES partner Dr. Serena set off for Gembira Loka Zoo in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, with consultants Diana and Rubiah.

She spent her first day teaching the veterinarians and keepers.

The next day (6 January 2020), veterinarians from the zoo as well as the rehabilitation centre veterinarians consulted Dr. Serena on a broad spectrum of cases.

It was great to meet new faces and feel the infectious energy of the team from Gembira Loka Zoo!

We have been busy with regional work! WAVES partner Dr. Serena took a trip to Hanoi, Vietnam together with Dr. Cedric from The Veterinary Dentist from 29 October - 1 November 2019.

They were there to check on the teeth of the bears at Animals Asia's Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre. These rescued bile farm bears had been kept in less than ideal conditions before they arrived at Animals Asia which also gave rise to multiple dental issues. The intense four days saw 12 bears anaesthetised either for endodontic treatment or dental checks of previous endodontic work.

A shout out to the Animals Asia team who worked really hard to organise all the bears to be treated!

On the 20th-22nd August, WAVES founder Serena assisted in dental training at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre. The training was attended by local wildlife veterinarians and veterinary students. Attendees practiced techniques for obtaining good dental radiographs, dental charting, as well as dental extractions. Two resident sun bears also had dental treatments performed during this training session.

Apologies for the lack of posting. Things have been busy in sunny Singapore.

WAVES partner Serena recently travelled to Bali to lend her much needed expertise and help some large mammals get the much needed dental work they needed. Photos to follow soon!

WAVES partner Weng has been busy at work providing training to an enthusiastic team from Bali Zoo in collaboration with the amazing Zoologic folks.

Over the past 3 days, the team participated in lectures and learning activities to develop better communication and procedures for working with internal and external vets. Weng was also able to provide input for current medical cases and biosecurity.

WAVES is keen to continue working with this vibrant and progressive zoo team so keep a look out for further collaborations!
