Three strategies for developing connected learners

To compete in an increasingly digital environment, businesses must guarantee that their workforce has the appropriate skills for today and the future, This entails taking into account the talents that the market requires and demonstrating to employees the personal value of gaining these new skills.

Connected learners, like Connector managers, help to build meaningful connections between and among people, teams, and the company. Developing connected learners necessitates a three-pronged approach.

Take a market-driven, predictive approach to skills identification - Gather more objective, expansive and ongoing data on shifting skill needs by diversifying the inputs used for needs analysis. Don’t just rely on conversations with business leaders, who look internally but often lack the big picture. Determining the most pressing skill needs in this way forges a closer connection between employees and the market.

Encourage staff to go above and beyond - Employees must take responsibility for their own professional development, but they frequently feel separated from the organization's development needs. Demonstrate to employees how they will generate personal growth by learning the skills that the company and market require. HR already communicates the business's requirements extensively, and you should continue to do so, but 70% of messages should be dedicated to individual personnel.

Connect employees to skill-building opportunities beyond their roles - Employees may not be able to upskill on-the-job for the abilities they will need to succeed due to the rapid speed of change. Don't only curate fresh learning content and offer self-service development alternatives, which might be confusing and ineffective. Instead, connect individuals to cross-organizational and even extra-organizational skill-building possibilities and broker learning events to expedite new skill development. You can also encourage staff to increase their abilities by using real-world applications.

Hybrid Will Become the Standard—But It Will Takes Time

Hybrid working will become the norm, with those who resist (for good reason) seeming increasingly out of date—as they should, given the benefits to recruiting, diversity, and work-life balance. However, hybrid friction isn't done, and while 2021 was about persuading companies to let employees select where they work, 2022 will be about when we work. Inevitably, this will lead to an increase in asynchronous cooperation, necessitating significant effort to avoid negatively impacting productivity due to uncertainty about who is working when.

Five tips to start the year off right at work

Set clear goals - Even if you aren't in the habit of making career goals, make a point of determining where you are today and where you want to be next year. Keep in mind that if you don't know where you're heading, getting there will be difficult. Plan how you'll make a change if you wish to be in a different position next year. Make a list of the new skills you'll need

Make a list of the new skills you'll need - You'll almost certainly need new skills to advance in your job, so plan ahead of time how you'll acquire them. Speak with your supervisor to see if there are any ways you might supplement your current skills by taking on new tasks.

Be flexible all the time - It is difficult to advance in your career if you are not flexible. Try to be open to new ideas and new ways of doing things, and set a goal to say "yes" more than "no" at work when it comes to suggestions from coworkers and managers.

Break free from your rut - Ask yourself if it's time to try something new. If you've been doing the "same old" work for years, now might be the time to make a change. Have you considered taking classes or volunteering for a cause that could help you land a better job? There is no better moment than the present.

Keep track of your accomplishments - Take stock of your achievements. Make a list of your accomplishments and design a forward-thinking CV and web profile to emphasize them.

A background check is a standard technique that most businesses use when employing a new employee. This procedure provides extensive information about the applicant in order to verify that they will be a safe and reliable employee. Although it is typical practice, not all companies make it a standard practice, which could have long-term consequences. Employers must understand the significance of background checks, why they should be used, and how best practices can improve the employment environment.

To keep their workplace safe, businesses must adhere to certain requirements while making recruiting selections. If an applicant has something to hide, they are unlikely to apply for a job that requires a background check. Employers will most likely witness an improvement in the quality of applicants when they implement employment screening methods, such as a background check, making hiring decisions much easier because they won't have to "filter out" insufficient applications.

Successful employers include development and succession planning programs into the overall strategy of the firm, ensuring that all programs work toward the same set of goals. These guidelines can assist management in developing employee development programs:

Gain executive support - Ascertain that executives understand and agree on how development fits into workforce planning, succession planning, or retention programs.

Involve management - If Executives express their support, management is more likely to prioritize staff development. Managers play an important role in bridging the gap between development strategy and real-world implementation.

Relate to performance management - The employer must be explicit about the importance of development in the performance management process. Managers should distinguish between short-term project plans, long-term organizational plans, employee career development plans, and skill building for current performance shortcomings. Each of these issues should be addressed at the appropriate stage of the performance management process.

Understand the employee's values - Employees are frequently vested in their own development. Knowing what each person values and how that connects to his or her development needs should have a significant impact on the type of development activities offered to the employee and, ultimately, the success of such activities.

Know the desired outcome - Understand precisely which abilities will be improved by certain employee development activities.

Although following these guidelines does not ensure a successful program, failing to do so will almost surely make the development program less effective for both the individual and the firm.
