A few years ago, when I was working at Bloomberg in Singapore, I had the chance to meet Michael Bloomberg, in person during his visit.
Everyone lined up to welcome him at Gardens by the Bay. One by one, he shook hands with employees who came to greet him.
At that moment, I realized something I didn’t expect.
Here was someone who built one of the world’s most influential financial technology companies, one of the wealthiest people in the world, yet he stood there patiently, greeting every employee with humility and energy.
He was already elderly, but he still took the time to acknowledge every single person.
That moment stayed with me.
I remember thinking to myself
“If I ever become successful or wealthy one day, would I have the same patience and humility?”
Leadership isn’t only about success, intelligence, or building great companies.
Sometimes it’s about respecting people, staying grounded, and showing up with kindness, even when you don’t have to.
That day, I didn’t just meet the founder of Bloomberg.
I saw an example of what true leadership looks like.
Still inspired by that moment today.
