This is on how they address issues
👩🌾👨🌾Ensuring palm oil workers are treated fairly and their rights are protected is a key priority. What does it look like?
📝Developing and adapting our standards
Labour and human rights are a key part of the RSPO standards, which are reviewed every 5 years. The 2018 RSPO Principles & Criteria have significantly strengthened the standards for labour rights.
🌿Safeguarding land rights
The RSPO Standard also include Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) to protect the legal and customary rights of indigenous peoples and local communities.
📣Protecting Human Rights Defenders
RSPO is the first certification standard to adopt a zero-tolerance policy on threats against Human Rights Defenders (HRD). We've also developed a hotline for people at-risk, available in multiple languages.
💰Providing a Decent Living Wage
We've launched a first-of-its-kind guidance document that creates payment standards for workers. This guidance helps to determine the Decent Living Wage in RSPO-certified units for all workers.
⛑️Building safe workplaces
RSPO standards guide members to manage their workforce, including rules on workplace protections like Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe working conditions.
🧒Preventing child labour
Certified units must implement a formal policy for the protection of children, including the prohibition of child labour. Workers must be provided not only a Decent Living Wage, but also education facilities for their children. We've seen our members support their workforce through childcare facilities, creches and after school care, so that parents can comfortably work knowing that their children are safe and protected.
🌴✅How can you help?
Choosing RSPO-certified sustainable palm oil is one of the easiest ways to support labour rights in the industry and ensure that vulnerable workers are not pushed into unfair labour practices.
