When the dust has settled, we are glad to be part of this memorable journey.

After working with the author on another book, we received another amazing opportunity to work with him on his latest book, titled “Kapal Haji, Singapore and the Hajj Journey by Sea”.

Our scope covered conceptualization, design layouts, typesetting, illustration and editing.

After working on the branding of Wisma Geylang Serai (Singapore), we were engaged to extend it to the spaces within the establishment. This includes the façade, staircases, pillars as well as the management office glass walls and beyond.

The result was a well-orchestrated and consistent look and feel throughout, in line with the spirit of Wisma Geylang Serai as a bridge for cultural exchange.

Companies spend millions to earn a tiny space in our heads that would help instantly recognize their brand logo design. But how well do you think that money is actually spent?

Because of the way our brains work, it actually makes much sense that visualizing material can help people remember it.

A custom signage firm has conducted a fascinating memory test, asking 156 Americans between the ages of 20 and 70, to draw 10 famous logos as accurately as possible.

The only trick was that they have to do it without any visual aids, simply from their recollections.

The results are waiting for you below, and be ready to be at least a little bit surprised at how the image of these famous brand logos vary from person to person. Despite the differences, most participants did manage to get the color palettes right, which shows the importance of the right color combo for a memorable logo.

“People have an emotional connection with color first. Then we take in the shapes, the logo, and we read the words,” says Karen Haller, a leading authority on color psychology. If we sense a mismatch, it’s the color we don’t believe, despite the beautifully crafted words.”

Scroll down to check what logo ideas these people had! Enjoy!

Hidden designs in famous logo.

The practice of hiding elements is common to all visual communications, not solely logos. It's as old as the practice of the design of logos itself, but it probably reached its peak in the 1970s, when supposedly witty visual and verbal analogies became central to graphic design practice -- the era of the big idea.

Sometimes the hidden element blends so well into a logo design that they can only be seen if pointed out.

The hidden arrow in Lindon Leader's FedEx logo may be the result of an accident, but it has been admired as a pinnacle of graphic design ever since its creation in 1994.

In the creation of logogram, one of the fundamental design principles is the experimentation with space. Take music for an example. If every note or chord is played at the same time, you wouldn’t have music; you have noise. Music occurs when sounds are contrasted against silence resulting in the variance pattern of sounds and silences that creates rhythm and melody. Without silence, there is no music. Likewise in visual art, without the negative space you don’t have design, you have visual noise.
When we first had our conversation on the identity of , the key brief is to capture and express the rhetoric of traditional Malay drums into a new visual form. The new identity should mirror both the artists’ experimental journey and their contemporary performances.

"If a picture is worth a thousand words, a prototype is worth a thousand meetings."

Meetings are often full of discussions based on opinions and speculations. Make it effective and productive with a prototype or concept.

When presenting a prototype, focus on the story. Ensure that you emphasize the problems that your solution solves. A prototype can act as a window into the future and helps them focus on a given context.

How design thinking fuels innovation?
1. Encouraging creativity. Design thinking allows you to explore an idea fully so you can see if the solution is effective.
2. Inclusive communication. This communication fuels innovation through the group sharing and exchanging of ideas, as design thinking encourages collective ownership.
3. Feedback. Feedback indicates the aspect of your product or services that you should refocus your time and effort.
4. Constant change. This environment of constant change keeps you from getting stuck in one way of thinking and instead prompts you to consistently adapt to new problems and develop new solutions.
5. Seeing the bigger picture. When trying to solve a complex problem, we often seem to focus on one spot rather than focusing on the problem as a whole.
Can you think of any other ways that design thinking fuels innovation? Let us know in the comments!
