[Abuse of SCDF Frontliners]

On 12 February 2023, SCDF responded to a medical case along Hougang Avenue 3. While the paramedic was assessing a male patient at the void deck, he became uncooperative and started hurling vulgarities at the paramedic. Despite attempts to calm the patient down, he became violent and slapped the paramedic on the face. He also kicked the paramedic multiple times before being arrested by the Police.

In a separate medical incident on 15 March 2023, a paramedic was assessing a male patient at Kallang Wave Mall when he suddenly turned aggressive and shoved the paramedic against the wall. He was subsequently arrested by the Police.

For using criminal force against public servants, the abovementioned perpetrators were sentenced to 14 weeks and 6 weeks imprisonment respectively.

These are just two of the 15 reported cases of abuse against our frontliners since January this year.

Every emergency call matters to us and we will do our utmost in serving you. However, physical or verbal harassment hinders our emergency responders from carrying out their duties to the best of their ability.

Have you considered emergency response plan during maintenance of lifts?

On 17 July 2021 at about 4.20pm, SCDF received a call for assistance at the aforementioned location.

Upon SCDF's arrival, a lift technician was observed at the bottom of a lift shaft. Firefighters from Central Fire Station immediately deployed a ladder from the first floor to gain access to the lift shaft. SCDF’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) crew assessed that the man had sustained injuries to the right side of his body.

The firefighters and rescuers from the elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) carefully secured the man onto a stretcher, and rescued him out of the lift shaft with a hoisting system.

The man was conveyed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in an SCDF ambulance.

The Candidate Requirements

Right to live and work in Singapore.

Minimum 8 years’ experience as safety officer

Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices

Experience in writing reports for health and safety

Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.

BSc/BA in safety management, engineering or relevant field is preferred.

Certificate in occupational health and safety
