⏰ IT’S TIME FOR SUCKERING / SHOOT THINNING • Rebula/Ribolla young vines •
This week our team worked at Jordano Cru and Medana Jama Cru. However you want to call this process of green work in vineyards, or – it is one of the most important phase to do.
Suckering is the process of removing the small shoots, or suckers, that grapevine trunks put out in the spring. These shoots pull energy, water, and nutrients away from developing fruit. Suckering by hand requires constantly bending down, getting up, and making repetitive motions.
The art of suckering at has always done by hands 🖐🤚- 100% manual. 👩🌾🍇🍾🥂 We want to show you how all this look like:
1📸 Our team in Jordano Cru
2📸 shows a number of new shoots extending from the trunk. The problem is, we really don’t need any of these shoots and they may steal some energy from the rest of the fruit that we need to mature. Thus, we need to remove them.
3📸 Our Danijel is removing them. If we let the shoots go much further, we would run the risk of the shoots lignifying and we would be unable to remove them with our fingers.
4📸 ✅ Shot of the grapevines once we've removed all the suckers. ❗️Important ❗️This process can take up to two passes through the every our vineyard during the season.
Special thanks 🙏 to Luka for amaizing photos!
