Brdo Castle, Slovenia

Brdo Castle, built in 1550 under Emperor Maximilian I, is the first Renaissance manor in Carniola. It was a key centre of progress during Protestantism, attracting figures like Primož Trubar, and housed significant works like Dalmatin’s Bible and The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola. Under the Zois family, the castle gained international fame, with Karel Zois establishing the first Alpine botanical garden. In the 20th century, it hosted the Karadjordjević royal family and later served as a summer residence for Josip Broz – Tito. Today, Brdo Castle, rich in Slovenian cultural heritage, is managed by the Protocol Service of Slovenia for state visits, though public tours are not possible.
