Today was 5th task of "Königsdorfer Wettbewerb 2026" with 461km task into Engadin and two very special FES gliders finished on 2nd (JS3 FES) and 3rd place (Nimbus 4 FES) 😀:

The JS3 FES takes to the skies! ✈️
LZ Design CEO Luka Žnidaršič took the controls today for a flawless maiden flight of the JS3 FES. It has been a significant journey to finalize this integration, and we are happy to have brought the project to a successful first flight.
The FES system performed perfectly, providing the quiet, reliable power that defines the modern soaring experience.
Our thanks to Jonker Sailplanes, Albatross Fly and many others for their contribution in reaching this milestone.🔋🏁

Great news! 🎉

EASA has officially issued the Major Change Approval for the LAK-17A FES. This means that all existing pure LAK-17A gliders, as well as the LAK-17AT (with combustion engine), can now be retrofitted with the well-known FES (Front Electric Sustainer) system. 🔋✈️
The pure LAK-17A glider was already used for the initial development and flight testing of the FES system back in 2009.

In 2014, EASA certification was granted to its successor, the LAK-17B FES. This was followed in 2020 by the 13.5m version, the LAK-17B FES mini, and in 2024 by the 18m LAK-17C FES, both certified as self-launchers.

Now, the circle is complete.

On this occasion, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to LAK Sailplanes manufacturer - SAirKo company for their continuous support, partnership and dedication to the FES system. 🙏
