At the end of July, we organized a one-day introductory data science workshop for employees of ČSOB bank in Bratislava, Slovakia. During this work-intensive day, the participants learned the basics of data manipulation in Python from basic Python syntax to using Pandas library for data manipulation. Last week we participated in Pavlína Fichta Čierna's discussion evening at Nová synagóga Žilina. We explained how accurate data can narrate false stories and why artificial intelligence can be biased. The good attendance and a diverse and curious crowd proved to us that these topics are no longer the sole domain of data scientists but are interesting for the general public as well.

THE FIRST DAY OF BASECAMP SPRING 2019: Yesterday, the new batch of soon-to-be-data-scientists joined our Spring edition. The first day was all about introductions – we got to know each other, tried some typical Slovak food, and in the afternoon we already started getting immersed into Data Science with the basics of working with Linux and Github.

Working as Data Scientists, we have to solve various problems on a daily basis. Some of them are tasks we've completed many times before and some of them are completely new to us and we have to understand the business logic behind them before starting building models. The latter was the case when our client, a bank, approached us a couple of months ago with a problem they were tackling – whether to provide or deny loans to gamblers.
