Date: January 14, 2026

The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources(MFMR)has officially announced the 2026 Artisanal Fishing Closed Season as part of a broader strategy aimed at replenishing the nation’s fish stocks and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the fisheries sector. The closed season, is a critical management measure, that will temporarily halt Artisanal fishing activities in all Sierra Leone's territorial waters for period of one month, allowing fish populations to recover, ensuring future abundant harvests and securing the livelihoods of hundreds of thousands of Sierra Leoneans.

Princess Dugba, over the past few years, the fisheries sector has undergone substantial growth, bolstered by the implementation of data-driven management strategies championed by the Ag.
